Hello,

I have a 97 528i, recently I started noticing the needle on my temperature gauge spike to the Red/Hot mark. This only happens during idle, sometimes being in a stop light is more than enough time of idle time for the needle to move to Hot. Once I drive off, the temperature goes to normal. Having the car in parking (idle) it will also do it and when I press the accelerator it slowly goes back to normal.

The radiator is 6 months old. Recently I have changed the thermostat like two weeks ago, done a full flush on the system, and tonight i changed the Fan Clutch. After all these changes and I still have the same problem.

The hoses are fairly new, they were installed 6 months ago along with the radiator.

Any suggestions? Tips?

Thanks!!

If you have the original water pump, and it had the plastic impeller, that could be your problem. If a few bits broke off, the efficiency would go way down and it will not function at idle---overheating results.

where do the broken bits get lodged at if they break?
