Is the R17 kit compatible w/ my '97 540i's DSP radio?

No, you will require our DSP-specific kit:

DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW - DSP
http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=25&products_id=284

When in CD mode, your amp looks for the direct input from the CD Changer, which eliminates the possibility of the radio interface kit.

Tough to say - can I see a picture of your radio and the connector in the back?

I'm very interested in this for my car but can't seem to find instructions on removing my receiver. I checked your websites' FAQ section but nothing shows how to do this. I've also done a little searching on the forums here with no luck :(

Just installed one last week and they work beautifully with my factory HK stereo. Being able to control it with my steering wheel is so much easier and now it sounds so much better than an FM Transmitter.

Hey Tom. Since I wasn't able to get ahold of you to get the instructions for the R17 install, I went for it myself. Right up until the end, it seemed like it was going fine. I tucked the DICE unit back and to the right (towards the glovebox) and the big plastic junction between the old and new radio connections back and to the left (towards the steering wheel). I ran the ipod and aux cables up from the sunglasses holder, and everything went back in place with only a little extra effort, with the job taking maybe ~1 hour. Then I reconnected the battery and turned the car on. Like it should, the ipod screen flashed the check mark and eventually acted like it was playing a song. I was even able to change the song/playlist/etc. and switch between the ipod and aux jacks. However, there was no sound. The fm radio worked fine, so the speakers were connected correctly to the radio, but I wasn't able to get any audio from either input except a popping or clicking sound (not related to the click wheel) at very high volumes. Any suggestions as to what might be happening? I checked and the connections seemed to be tight...do you know what wires carry the sound so I could maybe check continuity? Thanks!

Hi Tom,
I am getting ready to order the DICE Ipod/aux kit for my 2003 325i sedan with stock business CD with HK sound and pre-wired for CD changer. Can you send me the installion instruction for the R17 kit? I assumed DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW (Radio Interface R17) is the correct kit for my car?
Thanks

The DICE works with the BMW TP, however the radio does not support text display.

Tom- When you shut the car off, will the Ipod shut off as well, or at least pause?

I'd prefer to hide the Ipod in the glovebox or something but the prob I have now is I have to hit pause or shut it off before I get out.

On pre 2003 radios, the radio must be switched to a different source (AM/FM) in order for the iPod to get the "kill" signal. If not, the iPod will continue to play on it's own battery power.

Will the R17 kit work in my 04 330CI with a 6 disk changer installed? I'd prefer not to run the wires from the trunk. Please let me know if this will work so that I can order today.

Which one will I need for my CD43 (retrofitted into my '97 M3)?

Also, will this be compatible with the latest generation iPod Classic?

The new iPods (Classic and 3rd Generation nano) lock the display and Clickwheel, you will not see text information on the iPod. Since you have the CD43, you will still have this option (and all other DICE features) on the radio display.

Here's the kit you need:

I have a question and hope this is not out of place but:
I currently have a '95 M3 with the (I believe) C33. I'd like to add the Dice iPod + HD radio but I'd also like to install a CD43 at a later date.
Will the same Dice unit work for both?

I don't think it matters but I have installed the HK amp, HiFi switch and HK speakers.

As long as you use the R17 kit - the same DICE will survive the upgrade:

I'm stupid when it comes to radio stuff. What's the dif between a radio interface and trunk interface?

The Trunk interface version of the DICE kit allows you to make the necessary connections at the CD Changer cables in the trunk area, and allows 15 feet of cable length to allow placement of your iPod anywhere in the vehicle you like.

The Radio interface version of the DICE kit is a favorite among professional installers. This kit allows a direct connection directly at the radio, eliminating a long cable from the CD changer connectors in the trunk. This also provide a shorter cable route, reducing the possibility of engine noise. The Radio interface kit is also choice for euro models that do not have CD Changer prewiring.

Both kits offer the same features after installation.

Question.

I bought a used CD43 that came out of a 2000 M Roadster to put in my 1995 M3.

Do I get the 3 series kit or the M Roadster kit? (radio interface)
