View Full Version : Anyone know of a 16x9 wheel for a Z3?

Does anyone know of any lightweight 16x9" wheels that will fit on my 2001 Z3 3.0 Roadster???

It's a bit of an odd size, I realize, hence, why I'm asking about it here...

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

it will take a custom wheel; Monocoque, Kodiak, Litespeed, etc.

9" is usually an odd width for 16" diameter

They make them for Mustangs and Camaros.... :(

Rather see if I can dig them up somewhere first... possibly something from an older BMW, etc...

well consider that while a set of Kodiak wheels might seem pricey; approx. high $300 range for a 16 x 9, they probably would weigh 13# max. If I understand your intended use correctly, that's exactly what you need.

Ooh! Will they fit a BMW? That's exactly what I need? Where'd you find them? Also, all I see is the dreaded "red x"... :dunno

dunno about the photo showing up, always seems to be an issue for certain browsers/setups, I can see it fine, even after clearing out all my cookies, cache, and history files just to make sure it wasn't a result of any of those, here 's the URL:

these would be made to your exact specs, they already have the basic info, we would just need to specify the offset you want. You can have the centers polished or a different anodized color at no extra cost. There are some center design variations available, but IMO the one shown is the best looking.

We can get into the specifics privately: TeamBMWZ4@aol.com

High $300 range = $360 - $399/each

I went ahead and requested an exact quote based on 16 x 9 @ 35mm offset with the necessary Z3 specs & caliper clearance

sorry for the delayed response, apparently they've been busy cranking out a bunch of wheels for the start of the racing season, including some Z4 wheels :D

the 16 x 9 will run you $360/ea, he forgot to verify the weight so I'm still waiting on another reply :redspot

Complete Custom Wheels and Circle Racing Wheels are both good places to try as well, both with custom fittments that aren't that expensive.

Revolution wheels actually has an off the shelf 16x9, but I've seen enough of them shear apart I don't think I'd buy one. Might want to also check with Panasport...

Thanks, Andy, lightweight and durable for the 1/4 mile track is what I'm seeking, and the less expensive the better, provided they are quality, etc...

Team, got a word on weight yet?

Andy, got a link to those wheels you mentioned?

Thanks, fellas!

Oh, sure --

http://www.circleracing.com/

I very nearly got a set of these to race on, the only problem was the standard centers they use couldn't quite swing the ~35mm offset I'd need. I guess many cars don't use an offset that high. Their quote was about $225 per wheel.

www.ccwheel.com

No personal experience, but several others I know of have used them and been very happy.

www.panasport.com

Been out there for a long time, not sure if they have something in sizes you're looking for, or do specific custom work but worth checking into if the other two don't work out.

Good luck!

I'm looking into 16x9's for the rear, and matching 16x6's for the front... and super light weight...

Thanks!

I'll investigate...

if you want super lightweight then these are probably what you want:

http://www.kodiakmotorsports.com/wheelprice.htm

you'll also need this Acrobat PDF spec sheet:

http://www.kodiakracingwheels.com/kodiak-1.pdf

I need to call them to check on my order, will ask about your weights

Aren't Kodiak's like $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'd like to keep it within a budget, $300-$500 per wheel, if possible...

uuuuhhhhh, they already quoted you $360/wheel, this is the same wheel we've been discussing and that link took you to the pricing page.

You must have too many visions of carbon fiber body panels dancing in yer head ... :)

Sorry. :D $360 is great! Got the names confused.... :freak

TeamZ4

ok, made contact with Kodiak today

the 16 x 6 will weigh approx. 12.5 lb each

the 16 x 9 will weigh approx 15 lb each

these are just estimates. They have the rim sections in stock, but will need to machine the center sections to fit your application. You'd need to fill out a spec sheet for both a front and rear wheel. I can help you with most of the specs if you need me to. Probably 3 - 4 weeks max for delivery.

I only have experience with CCW. John builds some great wheels:clap: I use the CCW setup on my C5.

Never heard of Kodiak before, however, the wheels look awesome! Since TeamZ4 seems to know his shit, I bet they're worth looking into.

What rubber do you intend to run on the rims Dave? BFG DR's?

SilverStreak
02-21-2003, 03:07 PM
On the 16's? Hoosier QTP Racing Slicks. I have the BFG DR's on my current extra set of OEM rear wheels.

SvenOdin

Better than the BFG DR's?

How about in comparison to the ET Street?

SilverStreak
02-21-2003, 03:55 PM
The QTPs have softer sidewalls than the DR's, and will allow for more flex and are stickier, like the ET Streets, and size wise, I can't go smaller than 16's due to my brakes.

They are racing slicks (the QTPs) so they are even more track suited than the ET Streets...

Interesting! I looked at their website and didn't find much info. Are you buying them locally or via the web?

I use BFG DR's (315x35 on CCW 17x12 rims) on my C5, and was thinking about trying the ET Streets when they come out with their 17" in a couple months. May have to consider the Hoosiers....:devillook

SilverStreak

The web. Where do you get the ET Streets? Got link?

QTPs are only available in 15's and just a few 16's. I'm going 26x9.5-16.

ET Streets (http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/)

I haven't bought any ET Streets yet, but I have a local performance/speed shop that sells them.

I get my DR's online. Once from Tire Rack and once from Online Tires (http://onlinetires.com/main.html)

You got the link for where you're buying the Hoosiers online?
