CAn't find out why they retired. Seemed to be running well early on.

Did not see them crash, but I can only assume it was from some contact, or engine took a crap.

I wonder if Mason got any seat time before they retired?

Only one of the M3's started from the grandam site, but two were entered...a lot of cars entered but did not make it to grid.

From what I could tell the #24 Connelly Motorsports M3 either didn't take the green flag at the start or had trouble early on. For a while they were reporting it "out". The #21 M3 had worked it's way up to as high as 17th in GT before I had to leave the TV yesterday afternoon. When I turned it on this morning the #21 had retired after 153 laps and the #24 was running. It finished 30th of 41 in GT and completed 276 laps.

Looks like Grand Am needs to upgrade thier timing software, b/c it SUCKS!

Final results do show the #24, however, after watching 90% of the tv coverage, I did not see or hear any mention of the m3's :(

Dinan M5 powered Dp had a DNF as well...

#24 car had a slow "fast lap" and while #21 was quicker, still was several seconds behind...its just not competitive in its current state with those drivers and development.

Has there been a Z4M homologation made for Rolex yet for private entries?

One of the M3s went up in flames during the night while Speed was off air (at least that is what I heard as I wasnt in the media center when it happened).

I never heard what happened to the Sigalsport car. I will check it when I get home tonight as I have many of the hourly reports handed out in the media center with me, but am getting on a plane here in about 15 minutes.

During the credits they were showing highlights of the race, including a fire breathing #24 M3. Don't know what happened to it, but it was breathing fire.

it threw a rod... they had it on display on top of the car when it was in the garage.

It was damage from an accident that eventually took out the 05 car. Brian Morgan spells it out in a report on the BMWCCA website:

From Sigalsport:
"The Luggage Express Team Sigalsport BMW that unveiled its 2007 BMW Riley the Tuesday before the race did a fantastic job preparing the car showing that the car could run at the front of the pack and the team can now be included in the contenders’ list to score podium finishes and win a race soon. "

Yeah, until the Grand Am officials decide they can't have a BMW-powered car being competitive with the Pontiacs and put some massive air restrictor on it.

In all fairness to Grand Am, the S62 is about the only motor they haven't neutered down. The LS6/LS2 has had its displacement lowered from 5.7 litres, to 5.5, to its current 5.0 level, as well as having an intake restrictor added, and its fuel pressure lowered. They've also played around with lowering the rev limiter.

If the engine builders would prepare the engines as origanlly submitted, then grand am would not have to make any adjustments to the rules.
