I have a true universal cat from Magnaflow #94105. Seems these babies will fit just about any car out there. Has anybody used one of these with any sucsses? I'm not even sure if it will fit under the car but I thought I'd ask. It's a 2.25" ID to 2.25" ID pipe. I'd like to be able to use these as I already have them and I want to sell the car, so I'd like to not have to put any more money into it than I have to.

Any help would be great. Cheers!

I had one put on about 3 months ago and haven't had any issues. I just had the other side intalled today. I love them so far. The car idles alot smoother and quicker acceloration. Probably because the old stock one was so clogged up. However, that was the best 55.00 x 2 I've spent on the car. The muffler shop that I went to only charged 100.00 for labor total. They have my seal of approval. The fitment is great also.

Hey farhad, Yeah you sold em' to me, and don't worry I didn't think you sold me junk. I was just looking at the Magnaflow site and the ones that they recommend spesifically for the car are a different stock #. I know that they are probably internally identical I was just wondering if the sizing or anything was different. Thanks everybody for the heads up, I should be getting them on the car later this week.:redspot

PS. is there a spell check on the board that I am not seeing?:help

Where do you guys live that you get muffler shops to work for $100. Here in the D.C. area, I'm getting (gouge) quotes for than that for just about anything.

BTW, is anyone who've had exhaust work done in the D.C. area have a recommendation for a good shop?

Are these a direct fit after removing the OEM cats? I assume not. What sort of work needs to be done to have these fit?
The reason I ask is because a couple places that I've called looking for quotes seem the think that this would be a huge labor intensive ordeal because they're for a 740i.
Thanks!

The exhaust pipes are really easy to remove. You just need to find an independent BMW mechanic.

Just get then 94105's, you need the 2.25 inlets, not 2", and NO 02 sensor bungs on the cats either, just have them cut out the old and in w/ the new.

Mike,

I sent you a pm, but i would like to read more about your set-up. i'm currently in the market for a a new exhaust set-up and your look really nice.

That looks good, you should let us know it sounds after you've had it for a month or so. I love the idle and 70mph+ in my car after deleting my resonator for an x-pipe, but the loudness from stoplights and cruising around town. I've considered installing aftermarket resonators, but then I don't want it to still be too loud for me, then I've waisted another $100. I've heard (in person) what it sounds like on my same model car with just the mufflers, so I know what it'll be like. I just wanted a deeper tone......gotta trade one for the other i guess.

So far so good. Got them installed for about $180, which was 2 hours of labor. More than what some people have reported here, but I was fine with that.
Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the CEL doesn't come on.
As for performance, I haven't noticed anything, though I'm hoping that it at least increases my MPG over time.

My gas mileage increased considerably after doing the 02's, so if you're replacing cats those might also be ready for a change. Got them at Autozone or Pep Boys for like $69. While changing the cats did seem to do much, it ran cold better in the morning and had a slightly better tone to the exhaust.

I may be mistaken, but I think he means the 02 sensors. Not sure if Autozone carries Magnaflow. For those, check out www.performancepeddler.com (http://www.performancepeddler.com)

No, I bought the 02's for that price. I got my cats for $200 each installed from the shop which installed them. I got my mufflers for www.hottexhaust.com and used the coupon code "superhonda"

I spoke w/ John, a salesrep there. I told him how I found the coupon code of "superhonda", which happened to stop working on the website. I told him I found out about this site and asked if he could still give me a discount, which he did and then some. Closed mouths don't get fed.

Mossive

Hey Farhod, you might wanna point out the sound of yours might be different than the sound of the Magnaflows since you ended up installing different ones.....just to be clear. I've done the Magnaflow cats w/ the 3" in/out and the 14816 mufflers and couldn't be happier.

m5james
10-14-2007, 08:38 PM
I don't think we even own a video camera, short of my Treo or my digi. To be honest though, as many times as I heard different videos, on different cars, using different cameras......they didn't ever really sound the same. Some popped more, some were perfect. Farhod even says his sounds different than others have, hence why he wanted the cats. You really have to hear it in person, and install it exactly the same was as the PDF Steve and I created to get the best results. Once I heard his, there was no question as to if I wanted it done or not. I did the cats before the mufflers, and those alone deepened the note on the exhaust.

farhod that sounds amazing! do you have magnaflow cats too?

Mossive, I just pointed out above your post that he ended up using another brand of cats. If you like the sound of his also, then you need to find out what brand he used....he never told me which ones, just that his shop swapped them for free in exchange for the ones they stocked.

farhod
10-14-2007, 09:08 PM
im not even sure what brand the cats that i swapped with are they came in a white box that says universal cat...the only reason my indy said put these is because they were more circular, very similar to the oems, he said if i put those i wouldnt have to tilt one of the magnaflows. I have lost some bottom end, but i have also lost drone in the cabin and have a deeper exhaust note then i did with just the magnaflows alone...listen to james though, thats one thing ive learned..the guy knows what hes talking about and has helped me with a lot of stuff

Mossive
10-14-2007, 09:41 PM
interesting....no clue what cats you have?

M5james they have to retrofit the magnaflow cats with a tilt? i rather have straight threw no problems

m5james
10-14-2007, 09:52 PM
Not a tilt, they just cant install the directly flat like _ _ , they have to be clocked like /\ , but this will not impede flow at all. That angle is a little extreme, but it gives you an idea.

Mossive
10-14-2007, 10:37 PM
what other cats have others used?

m5james
10-14-2007, 10:40 PM
Stock, at the cost of around 1600 bucks....you decide. Just get the Magnaflows

Mossive
10-14-2007, 10:45 PM
ya i heard that....1600 each! ouch...i think the angle is goin to be doable thanks man ill get a video up when i get it done

i really wanted to get some magnaflow 14105 off road cats..but they are about 150 each and funds arent there but im sure they would be nice or you can get some eastern directt fit cats for 480 a piece from performance peddler...just go with the 94105s though...

Mossive
10-15-2007, 09:24 AM
would the offroads still pass the o2 sensors fine?

farhod
10-15-2007, 10:06 AM
the sensors are before the cat and after it so all they have to do is cut the oem cat close and it should be fine....

m5james
10-15-2007, 10:41 AM
would the offroads still pass the o2 sensors fine?

Why would you use offroad cats anyways? If your gonna replace them, why not use ones we already know get the job done. If they end up not working out, your gonna spend more in the end replacing your 4x4 cats w/ the proper ones.

Mossive
10-15-2007, 02:57 PM
i used straight pipes on the 300zx(no cats technically off road) for better performance and deeper sound i figured it would be the same with the 7

board57796
10-15-2007, 03:19 PM
Do Magnaflow cats work with the 750?

m5james
10-15-2007, 03:46 PM
The TT gained performance because the turbo's act as mufflers anyways, so anything beyond them is just gonna impede the spool-up of the turbo's. When I had my turbo MR2, RX7, VR4, etc I ran either straight pipes, or no exhaust at all on the MR2. The 740 needs backpressure due to it being a big fatass pig. Just like Farhod had noted, you'll lose a little bottom-end power w/ just the freer flowing cats, so a straight pipe will kill it even more. Another problem is software tuning, as you've already seen....our market is a little slim in options compared to mainstream cars that get FI'ed from the factory. I personally wouldn't do it. I deleted my resonator for an x-pipe, hated it and the bottom end was non-existant.

Cool thanks! Same model and all? Or different? Magnaflow's website is kind of hard to figure out for me.

m5james

Same model will work just fine. I sifted through the exhaust shops catalogs while they were welding mine up, and these have more than enough flow for the HP of our engines.

325 shipped! im soo stoked
