When I was in the Marine Corps (seems like about a million years ago now (retired after 20 yrs, 9 mo, 1 da in 87)), we used to send our brass pieces out to have them annodized (belt buckles, sword handles, scabbard parts, etc).

I love the understated elegance of the stock wheels on my 2000 740i, but would would like to make them a smoke or satin black color in keeping with other changes I've made (smoke corners and tails and black-out grille).

Has anyone ever sent a set of stock wheels off to be re-annodized, painted or whatever? It would have to be as durable as the original. Couldn't have it flaking off.

My big fear is that for a one-off annodization, it may cost as much as a new set of wheels.

Doug:

I've used my local Wheel Doctor to restore a set of M-Pars for my car and is cost about $100 per wheel. Most local independent shops and dealers outsource the work to a local company like the Wheel Doctor. In most cases they will come to you and do it on site. At the very least it would be worth a call.
