Will this work? I know people recommend 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 but I wanted to know if I can run 245/35/18 all the way around without rubbing.

View Full Version : 18x8.5 SSR Comps with 245/35/18 fit up front? PDX///M 01-13-2003, 03:22 PM Will this work? I know people recommend 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 but I wanted to know if I can run 245/35/18 all the way around without rubbing. PDX///M 01-13-2003, 03:23 PM Im looking to put these on a 95 M3. Bernman 01-13-2003, 05:32 PM It depends on your offset, but it should fit with little or no modification. What wheels do you have? PDX///M 01-13-2003, 06:45 PM Like the thread title says. Im looking to put SSR Competition Rims on the car. 18" x 8.5. Im buying the rims used and 2 of them have the Falken 245/35/18 on them with 70% tread. I wanted to know if those will fit up front and I can buy the same tires for the rear set and run the same all the way around. Putting new tires in the rear would allow me to run them for a while and then rotate at probably 10,000-12000 miles. Since the rear tires will wear faster. Bernman 01-13-2003, 09:49 PM I have very few rubbing problems with my 255/35 in front, so you should be fine there. In the rear, I would guess that the most you would need to do is to trim the bumper inside where the fender stops and the bumper begins. There is a protrusion there that is the source of most of my problems right now in the rear. A little extra camber in the rear would not hurt either. As long as you are less than -2 degrees, you should not have significant wear due to camber. I missed that you were getting the SSR's but I still don't know what the offset is for these. If it is 38, then that would be the same as mine. Good luck! Bernman TeamZ4 01-13-2003, 10:18 PM it's going to depend on the wheel offset, the M3 OE style spring perch has less clearance than the std 3 series spring perch Bernman 01-13-2003, 10:56 PM I have M3 Bilsteins and I can barely fit my finger between the tire and the closest part of the strut. The spring perch looked a bit smaller than the E36 OEM's, but I am not sure of how the vertical location compares. One might have a problem with coilover style struts however since the spring is usually a little farther down the body of the strut. BiMaW 01-15-2003, 02:15 AM bernman, are you running any spacers up front? Bernman 01-15-2003, 02:45 AM No spacers... Jim@tirerack 01-16-2003, 01:36 PM I would think other than more negative camber and maybe a fender lip roll you should be fine. Jim themadhatter 01-16-2003, 03:13 PM it's possible to roll the front fender lip? I didn't think the sheet metel was strong enough to do that without ruining the exterior. looks like I have a new project! :D PDX///M 01-27-2003, 05:15 PM Well I went and purchased 2 SSR rims used. They are 18x8.5" with an offset of 42. Im wondering if that is going to work. Most of the info I have seen on the E36 is that 38-41 will work. I wonder if I just bought rims that wont fit on my car? Im not sure if I should go out and buy another 2 rims if these arent going to work. I guess Ill be able to tell once I try and mount them to the car but I only have 2 so I wont be able to drive the car to tell if there is rubbing. Thoughts? Bernman 01-27-2003, 06:18 PM The 4mm difference from 38mm (BBS) to 42mm (SSR) is only 0.16 inches. I am sure you will be fine. |
