I am ready to pull the trigger on my first BMW purchase, a new 550i with:
automatic
Sport package
active steering
navigation
sirrius
premium sound
Cold weather

I am coming from 9 years of driving a Lexus SC400, and i loved those cars. But my baby has 110K miles and is lacking two doors. Anyone have any pearls of wisdom, besides that i should spend the extra 15k for an m5. Anything I should do or not do or lookout for?

nope. you're gonna love it. the 550's are freaking awesome. they're either A, faster than the E46 M3's, or B, they damn sure feel faster because they've got so much damn torque.

If you do decide to look at the M5, just keep in mind that it's not available with and A/T. It only comes with the SMG or 6 speed. Also, consider the 550 with a Dinan chip upgrade (if it's available now) - much less costly than the M5.

BMW will change your mind about what you're next car will be. It's a completely different driving experience.

You may want to re-think the active steering. Check with your dealer and some other enthusiasts. I was warned away...

Good luck in any event. You'll love it.

Found a slightly used 07 sport 6 speed. I test drove it on wednesday, driving it home on saturday. I think it is a great car for a lot of reasons...number 1, gotta love a V-8.

I hope your wait goes quickly.
