the car looked exactly like your, except the bottoms were painted and it didnt have a dent in the fender

1. It was no 528i and you need glasses

2. The owner badged it as a 528i for no reason

3. The owner swapped in a 2.8L M52 and badged it accordingly

now that u mention it, the 528 was in a very wierd position, maybe it was a 525?...or even a 530
