SO FAR i HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING
here are the symptoms, The car simply has no spark or fuel. The MIL indicator does not light up at all when turning the ignition on. I cannot do a stomp test either. I checked another 89 535i to make sure the mil comes on when the key is on and of course it does. I have checked the fuel pump and the main fuseable link. Any suggestions are appreciated. Tach bounces once in a while up to 4.5K then back down.

Changed DME
Changed all Relays
Checked all Fuses
Checed Fuel Pump

I'm a newbee, but is there a crank or cam positioning sensor? Since your tach is having a strange response, makes me believe it has something to do with that. You won't get fuel or spark if that is not working on other makes. Good luck.

I'm confused here. Does the engine crank, but not turn over, or you get no response at all, when the key is turned. You say the tach bounces. Is this when you turn the key to the on position?

I would check to see if you are getting the right voltage from the battery.
If cranking, but no start, replace the CPS(crank position sensor)

Good luck..........Felix

I'm sorry, yes it is cranking but not starting. I have a good CPS I can try today.
