We were on our way home after getting some Mochalottas from a
local Cinnabon. As I approached a light, a black full Reiger
E36 M3 with a Dinan badge and 18" HM2's was lined up on my
left. I decided to rev a little to see what his car had. Wasn't sure
if he was going to race cause he didn't bother looking over but
his girl did give us a glance. I had two other guys in my car and,
off the line he got the jump as I rolled off trying not to build up too
much boost since I'd just be lighting up the rears and standing still.
1/8 mile down the road, another light comes up and he takes
a left so I decide to follow and get a longer race. As we approach
a freeway, he enters and I'm thinking okay, it'll be a longer race. As
we enter the freeway, there's a ton of traffic so there's no where
to go. As we're crawling along at 45mph, I can hear his Dinan
exhaust roaring as he's in gear and prepared take off. As a lane
opened up, he goes and I'm in gear too and I pass him but he
decides to slow for some reason. I downshift to second gear going
about 45 waiting for him to catch up. I see him accelerating hard
from about 200 ft behind me and the guys in the car are
yelling "go, go!!!" As he approaches, he's nearing 100mph and this
is where I mess up. My newly installed UUC shoft shifter kit
decides to jam itself between 3rd and 5th gear as I'm doing the
2nd to 3rd gear shift. This is the third time this has happened
since I've installed the kit yesterday. I'm hoping it breaks in and
gets a lot better but now I want to take it off because of it's
notchiness. Well, we get off the freeway and get onto local streets
and the guy doesn't go so we decide to turn back and head on
home with our heads down and tails between our legs. Oh well,
you win some you lose some.

So it's the shifter's fault??? ;)

Hang on.

You drive a 330 CI or I with a Turbo kit? What kind of power are you making? Who's kit.

The UUC is sticking. Jeez, it's not a wear item, it should be smooth from the getgo. Give them a call...
That's how you misshift your car! Get on that.

Maybe there never was a race. I don't know but it just felt like I could have done better. I have never had the shift lever stick on a 2-3 shift before I had the SSK installed. Case in point: a few days before, I was able to take on an S2-M5 from 20 to 80 with a 1/2 car lead. I built the turbo kit myself since no one has an available kit for the E46. Here's a before and after dyno of it from a while back:

wowow... You built it yourself... OK please share. Those are great numbers. How did you get the software to match your fuel and timing demands?

206 rwhp and 203 rwtq stock are some damn good #'s. My baseline on my 3.0 was 198 rwhp and 193 rwtq, and the Z3 has a shorter drivetrain to the rear wheels, etc....

Very nice... :buttrock

Well, everyone is bound to have a bad race from time to time. Just stay vigilent and look out for your next victim.

I tuned the car on the dyno with maps for fuel and timing. Here's the thread about the S2-M5: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67267

i think i know the driver. u sure it had full rieger? or did it have a zeemax rear (and zeemax sides)?

Hmm...could have been zeemax. Dark at night around 7pm or so and I'm not too familiar with E36 kits. I know for sure he had 18" chrome Hamann HM2's. You know anything about his car? If it was stock in terms of performance, I'd want to kill myself :( Are you the Sam that had the Dinan S/C that I drove during the dyno day at DSR?

chrome 18" HM2's...he has those too.

i'm pretty sure he only has basic bolt-on's on his car (no s/c or turbo)... unless he just got it. still a chance that it isn't his car.

nope i don't have a dinan s/c.

UUC shifter will loosen up after a few hours of taffic type driving. Mine was tigher than Tison's bite at first, but later became smooth and precise.
