View Full Version : "Clearance" pricing on CPO cars? "It's a trap!"???

I am a bit of a cynical guy currently looking at purchasing a CPO 2003 330xi with sport, premium, cold weather, xenon, and H/K packages with 45k miles from DeSimone BMW. The car was originally priced at 32,500 (which was out of my price range), but two days later it was placed on "clearance" (along with some other CPO cars) for 27,500.

Does anyone know if this is a common trick-- i.e. way over-price a car and then drastically drop the price to just mildly overpriced so that shoppers are reluctant to deal down to a good price? Or is it a genuinely good deal?

I am not a BMW guy and unfamiliar with area BMW dealerships, so it is difficult for me to judge a good price for this vehicle... any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much...

Any car dealer will list a used car high to try and increase his margin for when a sucker comes along. When it doesnt happen, they lower it to move the car. The dealer has lots of profit built into that deal and all it should tell you is that you is that you should be negotiating it down hardcore.
