The front folds down (reclines), but not forward. Folding rear seats were an option that I've never seen. I think you could fit an upright bass by laying it on a folded-down front passenger seat, with the neck facing backwards.

Oh, and the rear seat is fairly easy to remove, for what it's worth.

This won't help you but I've picked up oversized items from home depot had it sticking about 5 ft. out through the sunroof. drove slow and watched for cops. yes my e34 does it all.

Try moving the passenger seat all the way back. I've put some pretty large items in the front compartment/seat area (reclined) I never thought would fit.

...then if you want to take the whole string quartet with you...you could strap the string bass to the roof...and load the cello, viola, violin and the other 3 players inside! :D :lol :D

It was an option? Anybody here has folding rear seats on 1995 525i?

yeah i was thinking about a touring, but theyre so much work to get to look good. imo they always need to be lowered and the rims changed out or they look not as beautiful as they should. sedans are pretty decent from factory.

Where'd your contours go on your E34?

Yeah, the folding rear seats seem pretty rare. Be warned, removing the rear seat as somebody mentioned will only give you the small ski pass-through slot to the trunk. It's a solid steel panel behind the seat back, so you don't gain much in that regard by pulling it out. You do gain some vertical space in the back seat area with the thick lower cushion removed.

I agree, time to buy a Touring. :)

It's winter time...and the snow tires mounted to 16" e38 basketweaves go on! :)
