View Full Version : FS: Cobra Sebring GT Race Seat in San Jose, CA - $800
Dinanify 01-19-2007, 05:14 PM (sigh)
I bought this seat, and the seat truly is awesome, however, I wondered why my back hurt so bad after my last two consecutive track days (it was bad). Speaking to Tony, he thought that maybe the shoulder strap holes on the seat were too low (too short for my tall torso), and under hard suspension compressions, my spine was getting compressed.
Well, this morning when I drove the car over to Ramon, sure enough, he was right (they are indeed too low). The seat is not overly short, its just that my torso is overly long, so this seat would probably work for most folks. The GT is slightly wider than the standard seat. These go for $899+ shipping/tax/etc Brand new, and this seat has only been used for those two track days.
Unfortunately, I can't go uber low on price since this, again, means I'll need to have another custom seat mount fabbed up by Tony (sigh, sorry honey ). Anyway, if you're interested, let me know, and we'll see if we can work something out.
A local friend of mine may be interested, but I suspect that it may not work out for him (sizing). If he doesn't want it (i'll find out asap), I'll have either him or myself post again, and we'll go from there.
The seat looks like this:

I'd really like to see a local sale (I'm in San JOse, CA, 95118 in the evenings, 95050 during the day). 600 picked up or 700 shipped. I'm going to need this money to buy a seat that actually fits me, and to get another custom seat mount fabbed by by Tony (TCDesignFab). So, right now, it's a local only sale (local to San Jose, CA).
jmargo 01-20-2007, 12:09 AM Ben, I posted this in CA section also since you prefer a local buyer.
G/L on the sale.
Greg S 01-20-2007, 01:06 AM Ben, what happened to the Cobra Suzuka GT's? Let me know if you want to get rid of one.

G/L on the sale.
Thanks Jason!
Ben, what happened to the Cobra Suzuka GT's? Let me know if you want to get rid of one.
I have one in the passenger side still, but each side has custom seat mounts, so the suzuka would be tough to sell, it's a nice seat other than that that one doesn't have the head protection that the Sebring does.
Greg S 01-20-2007, 03:21 AM I beleive the E36 and E46 have the same mounting dimensions but I'm not positive, anyways, just let me know if you wanna sell it. I just bough one for the driver seat and am looking for a passenger one now...

Dinanify 01-26-2007, 02:36 PM Bump, OBO, anyone?
What seat are you getting to replace this? The Recaro Profi SPG XL is good in that it has higher belt holes. You're welcome to try on mine for fits; I'll be at Thunderhill on Sunday or Laguna Seca on Wednesday. Griffin in Berkeley can source these. Also, Tony has experience making a mount for these... ;-)

Dinanify 01-27-2007, 05:54 PM Hey Florian,
I'd like to have a seat with head protection, so that limits my options. The only one thus far that I've seen that souds like it will work is the RaceTech RT 4009 WTHR, it can been seen on this page, 2nd seat down:
http://www.racetechseatsna.com/race_seats/RT9009.html
Do you know if the shoulder harness holes on your seat are the same as the SPG Pro Racer Hans? (that would be another seat option, but I think the shoulder harness holes may be too short for that seat as well) If they are, I'd be interested in trying to meet up and sit in your seat. Whereabouts do you live? (I'm in San Jose)
Yeah, hehe, it feels like I've been playing musical racing chairs trying to find a seat that will really fit, Tony always manages to get the seat right where it's supposed to be (as centered as the seat will allow on the steering wheel, and the perfect tilt..., now..just to find the 'right' seat..
Dinanify 01-29-2007, 12:20 AM Bump-a-rump-bump
The Recaro Profi SPG and the Recaro Profi SPG XL differ in that the XL is not just wider, but also has the harness holes higher up. I drove at Thunderhill for about 3 hours today (in amazingly nice weather; Bonni's 2 rungroup day was awesome), and instructed for 3 more hours in an Acura CRX, and while I am tired, my back is fine. :-)
I'm in San Francisco.

I was asking about differences between the SPG Pro Racer Hans and the Profi SPG XL. (besides the head protection, if any)
Yeah, I know; but I'm afraid, I don't know. ;-) (bump)

Hey Ben,
I also have a SPG XL in my car. I can bring my car to work one day if you want to sit in the seat. I believe you work right down the road from me so we can meet up for lunch. Save you a trip to SF. BTW, thanks to Florian for letting me sit in his seat so I could find out if I could fit my large frame into a SPG XL. :cool
Good luck with the sale Ben.

Thanks for the bump and the kind words Andrew :)
I've been sitting on this for a while, ...so I can do the seat for $800 shipped at this point if you're interested, I do take paypal (ben@norcalbmw.com). If you're really serious, just know that I'm pretty confident that Tony (TCDesignFab.com) had to grind off a little bit off the bottom to accomodate mounting the seat so low to the ground, I have a very very very long torso, it's no big deal, its outta sight anyway, and not something that makes the seat function any less, I can put you in contact with him if you're curious, that website abouve, and just reference my full name, Benjamin Hirsch, and that you're interested in the seat, and ask him about any grinding he had to do to make it fit for me). I just want everyhting out in the open if you're serious about the seat (no suprises).
Dinanify 02-01-2007, 01:23 PM Bump! (still for sale), I"ll do $800 shipped or $700 for local sale / pickup
Rich V 02-01-2007, 02:55 PM Is the custom bracket available with the seat?
Dinanify 02-01-2007, 08:44 PM Sorry, I'm just selling the seat (no other hardware)
$800 shipped or $700 picked up locallly (San Jose, CA, 95118)
Dinanify 02-01-2007, 08:46 PM Actually, Rich, did you mean the bracket that Tony fabbed up?
Rich V 02-01-2007, 08:49 PM Actually, Rich, did you mean the bracket that Tony fabbed up?
Sure did.
Dinanify 02-01-2007, 09:03 PM Sure did.
The mount is meant for that seat in an E36 M3, so I wont' have any need for it, I can include that. However, I'm not sure if the seat will fit you in its current mounting position, but you're more than welcome to swing the house to sit in it to check it out though if you like.
Dinanify 02-05-2007, 06:49 PM Price Reduction - $700 Shipped, or $600 picked up!B
Bump!
hotshu 02-06-2007, 08:52 AM What does the seat alone weigh?
Would the head wings be a detriment to shoulder check sightlines, eg. on the street?
Darth Maul 02-06-2007, 12:47 PM I'm guessing these would not be comfortable for street use...?

Yes (detriment)
I'm guessing these would not be comfortable for street use...?
Nope (wouldn't recommend these for street use).
