I am experiencing a mild delay on shifting (2nd to 3rd). This comes and goes, sometimes the trany works fine! Other times it only appears once the trany is warm.Other times its there right after I leave my garage.
Drained old fluid and changed the filter, but problem is still there. My car came without manuals so I based fill capacity to the fluid i drained (4 liters). I am thinking maybe I under filled it.Could anyone tell me true capacity please?
The car has around 89k kms only and the trany has no trace of any leak, that's why I am puzzled??? Help please!

there is a way to adjust the shift delay.....although i cant think of it now. i'm sure someone on the board has experience with it though.
Thanks for the encouraging words. I hope somebody out there with experience with the same problem could share something. Does anyone know the fill capacity of my tranny?

Get me the exact model and I'll look it up on my Bentley's Manual.
You should definitley get a Bentleys BTY.
Thanks Anegonzalez05!I agree with you, I will oder one today. Meanwhile could you look it up for me please. Its a 92 525 touring, M50 motor, LHD and European version. Its a great car and i love it! Its just this shift delay to 3rd thats been bugging me,would like to deal with it ASAP! Thanks again!

Per the manual, 525i from 1991-1995 have a A4S310R transmission. Oil change for a A4S 310R automatic transmission is 3.0L (3.2qt) of Dexron II.
Looks like you over filled. The manual has some clear instructions on how to properly fill the transmission which include measuring the temperture of the fluid. You're definitely giong to need the manual.
Good luck.

Let us know if this was the culprit. I have this exact problem with my '95 540i and it's been bugging the hell out of me. I would be very relieved if this could solve the problem.
scyrusurcys. Hope this helps.Filled it as per anegonzalez's instructions. The good news is 2nd to 3rd upshift delay went away, the bad news is delay is now when downshifting from 2nd or 3rd into first! Instinct and experience tells me that I underfilled the tranny. So I filled it little by little, roadtesting in between fills until I finally got the best compromise (between no delay of upshifts and downshifts). Now I am left with only a faint delay on upshifts to 2nd and 3rd, I happpy and left the tranny alone for a week now, I figured I better off now than before. I think if I had the manual and was able to measure correct fluid temperature I would'nt have to go through the fill and roadtest thing that i did. Ordered the manual already though.
