View Full Version : 135i the first 1 series to be available stateside.
alexw 01-18-2007, 01:14 AM From AutoBlog (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/17/its-on-bmw-1-series-coming-to-the-u-s-in-135i-guise/)
At what Winding Road described as a "corporate event this week," BMW officials have confirmed that the 1-series will be making its way to U.S. shores in 2008. The official announcement is expected later this year, which will finally put to rest the speculation we've been covering for far too long.
Just the fact that the 1-series is on its way is big enough news, but the real deal-sealer is that the two-door hatch will debut with the highly desirable, yet under clocked, twin-turbo 3-liter, inline-six. The 135i will be the first vehicle to be offered up to American enthusiasts, with the 130i coming at a later date.
Again, more after the link here (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/17/its-on-bmw-1-series-coming-to-the-u-s-in-135i-guise/).
I think it'll be great to see the 1 series over in the states. I just got to Germany and can say first handed they at least look amazing from the outside. One of the only Bangle designs of recent I truly like. I just cant wait for official pricing.
sparkchaser 01-18-2007, 10:38 AM Nice. I want one.
SpunkyE30nOk 01-18-2007, 10:51 AM I want a 3 dr with the 3Ltt....man i hope bmw decides to race a couple also once they start selling them over here

I love them too. I cant wait to see what they give us over stateside. I'm stationed in Germany, so I can pick one up with European Delivery or with a Military Discount... I wanna see what they give us as for pricing.
For those of you who haven't seen them in person, they really are very awesome cool looking small cars.
306hp will certianly make that car popular. A small car with good power is perfect for any urban area.
Does anyone have any guess on the ballpark price for this? Just curious if they will price it well below the M coupe? The performance should be similar for the two and I wonder if they worry about losing sales.
I could be missing out on some obvious difference though.
Thanks,
Sam

Theodore 01-18-2007, 03:00 PM Thats a lot of engine for that car! How's the weight of the 1 series compare to the 3 series?

All the reports I see say they'll price it in between the mini and 3 series. They say the twin turbo version will have a "premium of $5K".
As for weight, The only number I could find was a 3,197 lbs quoted by some user on AutoBlog, and that was for the 130i. I don't know if there is any truth in that. I also don't know if BMW has released any solid info on their 3 door hatch, when it comes to weight, and other specs. But you can go to bmw.com and view more info on it.
mose121 01-18-2007, 05:28 PM Not to spoil the fun here, but this wouldn't be the first time someone "inside" BMW has reportedly said the 1 series is coming stateside. It has also been stated numerous times by BMW that if it did come, the 2 door would not make it here. That being said, I think I'll wait for BMW to make a formal announcement before I start getting worked up about this. It would be sweet though.
jezzabel 01-19-2007, 06:19 PM I don't doubt this car is coming, but I doubt that bmw "officials" gave that magazine the complete lowdown on every single detail. And anyways who knows how high up these "officials" were.
lust41 01-19-2007, 06:25 PM What happened to this thing being called a 2 series? Different car?

BMW was going to go with a new numbering scheme.
I forgot if even numbers would be coupes and odd, sedans.
But there was also talk about a 4 series which was a 3 with a different number of doors.
BigKidD 01-19-2007, 08:43 PM I was under the impression that BMW would bring over the 2 door version and not the 4 door. Also, there is a 2 door convertible 1 series and I'm sure BMW would very much like to sell that version in the US.

I'm just thinking about how many teenage girls are going to have a base 130iC.

RRdawho? 01-20-2007, 03:32 PM 3200lbs? Doh...I was hoping somewhere around 2800 :(
Well, I'll just stick to my M3 then...

What do I know, but I think we've gotta see a 2.5 for this. A 130 will still be pretty ballsy.
As for the weight, we'll see when we see final numbers, I don't think BMW has released anything yet, as I don't think they're officially selling 3 doors yet.
So many questions to be answered! :shifty

shedding weight shouldn't be that hard. Some aftermarket seats alone should cut close to 100lbs.

I'd have to think a 125 version will not make it over, since pricing wise it would be too close to the Mini. I'd think a diesel version would be more feasible since they are starting to make a comeback.
