I just swaped one of my 2.8 eta engine from a 84 528E into my 84 533i. It only had 118k vs 207k and serious head issues. almost everything is back into the good car minus the cooling system and exhaust.
1st issue- turning over slowly and starter sounds exsessivly loud.
pull starter from my other 528e that is known to be good.
installed and same symptoms persist. I hook the jumper leads to a new battery instead of our crappy shop charger that was invented just after the telephone. Starter wasnt the issue, not enough juice to turn everything over. the charger and the battery together work.
2nd issue, after priming the motor with the fuel pump fuse pulled, I try to start it.
No fuel. I cant here or feel any vibrating in the pump cover while cranking. check the fuse and plug wire. I have power. More scavanging from the other 528e.
Replace the pump with known working unit. Now we have pressure.
3rd issue, no spark.
I pull apart the cap and rotor and clean off the corrosion with 220 grit sandpaper. reinstalled and no change.
I test the main plug wire to the cap and rotor and nada. I have power at the pos term and my test light actualy shows power at the neg terminal on the coil. I am waiting for strapon to send me the correct fuses for my DVOM so I only have my testlight. So I continue on with my canablizing of the other 528e and swap coils. Still nothing. WTF!!!! Anyone have any ideas? Also if I need a new coil, any recomendations on a stronger aftermarket piece?

I know the other 528e parts all worked because the car was running till 3 days ago when I parked it. with a blown headgasket.
