View Full Version : I just got burned by an Integra
MattT1685 01-11-2003, 12:51 AM I was chilling with two of friends tonight and we met up with this kid that had a turbocharged integra. He said that he was running 7psi and had done a bunch of other stuff to it also like taking out the back seat. We ran three times from about 40mph to about 110-120. Each time we started off even and then his turbo would kick in and he would jump a couple of car lenths on me and then i would slowly start to catch up but at that point the race was over. I thought that with my mods i should have been able to pull on him. He said he is going to the dyno tom so i'll see how much hp he is putting down. I guess its time to start saving for a supercharger :D
Edit: I've also got the race on camera and i'll post it up when my friend sends it to me
FrankW 01-11-2003, 01:35 AM Yep, a properly tuned Integra can be really quick. Just look at the winning Integra from Speedvision Touring car series. It beats every other car in it's class.:)
shmoo 01-11-2003, 09:35 AM Yeah, those little cars are pretty quick even NA tuned
NoSoup4U 01-11-2003, 12:23 PM good power/weight ratio's in that car. Plus, with the colder weather, his turbo runs much stronger right now. Try him again in the summer, with humidity, and see how he does, hehe.
LeVik 01-11-2003, 02:57 PM There's a cream white turbo Type R running around somewhere near me. Neighbors around the community claim it's an 11sec car....I'd watch out for some of those little things.
Rel44 M3 01-11-2003, 03:46 PM Sorry you lost, but that sounds like a cool little car! I respect any car that has been worked on like that.
nicom3 01-11-2003, 04:43 PM yeah those Integras are pretty damn kwik. I ran one back a year ago round the spring summer time, and we stayed head to head but he had more of a jump then i did. I was a previous owner of a modified gs-r so i know how nimble and kwik those cars can be.
IMAGE&STYLE 01-11-2003, 05:07 PM Turbo + Vtec.... heheh can do a world of a difference in a little gs-r...
CABimmer 01-11-2003, 05:19 PM You need to run this guy from a stop. You will kill him. Front drive cars are very tough to launch.
MattT1685 01-11-2003, 05:38 PM I def going to try and race him again in the summer after i get a track pipe and do the fan-delete mod. This time we'll do it from a dead stop instead of starting at 40. Hopefully i'll be able to take him then

I don't know what you're talking about dude, The Integra will beat him from a dead stop too. Frtont drivers are not difficult to launch either... I ran a 2.1 60 ft. at the track.
Props to the GSR..... strike another one up for my fellow Integs:buttrock

I think what he is reffering to is that FWD cars cant get the traction at launch that a RWD car can simply because of physics.
CABimmer 01-11-2003, 06:32 PM Turbo Integras are not easy to launch, Ive seen many at the track burn there tires off. They still are only going to run Mid 13s in most cases. His M3 will run Mid 13s they way it is set up now.
Mikey52 01-11-2003, 07:52 PM Heh, I feel your pain. I got SPANKED by a turbo GSR running 12 pounds. He dynoed at like 280 I think, VERY fast car. We went from like 30 mph and he just schooled me.
comptechgsr 01-11-2003, 09:13 PM in my 'all motor' gsr,
i was running a lil bit over 200fwhp,
~ 135 tq...
btw, to those that 'jus read' numbers,
torque curve was real smooth all the way up, linear/increasing etc. my gears matched with 9500rpm limit (valvetrain/head by www.todaracing.com)
power ended @ ~8500rpm etc
stock 1797cc, bit over 10:1 CR, and 93 octane =)
pulled a 13.7 @ 98, 2.0 60' due to lsd and my friend's nitto 555r's...

car wasn't at all built for dragging...
but i did have fun toying with ppl.
integras/hondas/imports are great/fun cars to mod/race/enjoy, but due to the 95% population that promotes rice, the general rep is bad.
www.honda-tech.com peeps r cool
as for the FI FWD's, traction is a bitch,
unless one has LSD and some good low psi slicks, launches suck ass..............
that goes for almost any of them, fwd imports etc etc, VW/Audi 1.8t's etc etc,
torque ain't all that in fwd
96cosmosM3 01-13-2003, 04:08 AM I also had a pretty quick NA integra until recently.
91 Integra RS (Stripped inside, no options, JDM bumpersupports, 9ibs CPF Evos wheels etc ==2300 ibs) with 96 JDM ITR swap (11.4:1 with mugen gasket) and ITR gears/LSD in a YS1 case.
I never got any dyno or track numbers but it was faster than my m3.
SilverStreak 01-13-2003, 10:26 AM FWD cars with power are tougher to launch than RWD cars. 2.0 and 2.1 are decent 60' times for FWD (I managed a 2.1 in my wife's 03 Acura CL Type S 6 spd), but put some slicks on a RWD car and see what happens.... (check my sig... ;) )

Justin, remember that if all other things are equal, a RWD *IS* easier to launch from a dead stop than a FWD car. Simple physics...
Remember what we talked about? Weight shifts towards the rear of the car on launch due to intertia. So, in a FWD car, this means that the drive wheels are getting LESS traction, while in a RWD car, this means the drive wheels are getting MORE traction.
If you had your same car, same hp, same everything else, but it was magically RWD, you'd have an easier time launching than you do now. Your 60' is about as good as you're going to get in your car w/o slicks/drag-radials, but it'd be better if you were RWD. If you went FI, though, I think you'd find it hard to launch w/o spinning like crazy.
Caymandiver75 01-13-2003, 02:01 PM Props to the integra. I am a previous integra gs-r owner and I know the capabilities of them. I had an all motor setup done by dpr racing in california. Put down close to 200 wheel hp and still using factory honday type r cams. :) I could have put a set of aftermarket cams in for an additional 20hp, but never had the chance. Car was totalled then I got the ///M
