Found a thread where you swapped out a E32 driver seat into an E34. I have the same situation....a 1989 535i and have a chance to get a nice seat replacement from a 1994 740il. From reading your posts back in 9/06, it appears that this can be done with some modification to the wiring harness. How difficult was the process of removing the harness from the E34 seat and installing in the E32 seat and... would you provide some instruction on this procedure? My seats are without memory and are non-heated. Now that you have made this swap...would you advise someone (say...like me) to make this swap? I have yet to purchase the E32 seat (eBay Item); however... I don't want to bid on this if it will end up being an exercise in futility!
If anyone else (besides Paul) has experienced this swap out...feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much!

I did keep the 7 series side panels on the seats after swapping but should have used the 5 series panels and not chucked them. The 7 series side panels are a little wider and will rub a bit on the center console and B pillar. Not too bad but they do rub a bit. In swapping the drivers seat wiring harness I went from the 5 series seat with heat and no memory into the 7 series seat which had memory, heat, and lumbar control. The 5-series wiring harness had the extra plug for the lumbar controls so I now have lumbar controls and seat heat with the 7 series seat. It's a bit of a pain removing the wiring harness because of the little tube it all goes through from the bottom of the seat to the top of the seat by the seat hinge. I chose to just cut the harness at that point to facilitate removal and just used butt connectors when putting back together. If you have seat twisting problems (I didn't) now is the time to fix the cables too. Oh, and it's a good idea if you have a digital camera to take pictures of the wiring harness in both seats before removing. It might help get it all back together correctly. My passenger replacement seat had damage to the frame portion that bolts to the floor. Don't know if that was accident damage or shipping damage but I had to remove the same portion from the 5 series seat and use that. It worked fine though. I also got my seats off ebay from the guy in Atlanta. They do a good job of packing but they usually take about two weeks to ship them out.
