View Full Version : thinking about buying an 82 320i
Techno ///M3 01-16-2007, 07:26 PM what is the correct chasis code for a 1982 320i? i have a guy selling me one for $400 with 200k miles on it, body is in nice condition, engine in nice condition.... has one rust spot near one of the windows where water runs down from the roof. the clutch needs to be replace, it is shot. can anyone tell me if it is worth the $400... seems to be a good deal for using it to go back and forth to work and school within a 5 mile area. how much does a clutch for this car usually cost?
thanks guys

ProjectP 01-16-2007, 09:56 PM The chassis code is e21. Clutch should be able to get for under $200
Techno ///M3 01-16-2007, 10:15 PM the place where it is at said he can install a new clutch for 450,. i think that is too much, does anyone know where i can get the clutch assembly and what is the part number?

blitzed310 01-17-2007, 12:36 AM You can do the clutch by yourself in a couple of hours. $400 is a good deal. A new clutch is around $200.

$250 give or take parts cost at the shop, + 3 hours at $80 an hour?
$450 is not a bad deal, if you think it's too much, of course you can do it yourself for the cost of the parts and your time, how much is your time worth to you?

Just go look on Ebay.
I got my Valeo clutch for $126 shipped. There are a couple companies making the replacement OE clutch.
$450 sounds pretty fair just on labor. Don't know why you'd say way too much?
