View Full Version : M3 replica help. Which BMW?
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum.
I am looking to buy a new car - BMW E46 obviously!
I want to modify it to look like an M3.
I was rally impressed by how much so many people know about BMWs on this forum. I wanted to ask these people - what's the best BMW to get to add the M3 bits onto e.g. 318 ci sport etc.
Also anyone who has done this mod please upload your pictures on this thread or email me them.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

DaveCM3 01-16-2007, 10:50 AM Well, I wouldn't recommend it. Because then you would become what's known as a "poser".
But if you insist, then you will need new front and rear quarter panels, a new hood, new steering wheel, new seats, new shifter, new wheels, new exhaust pipes, a badge for the rear, engine cover, door sills.... and the list goes on. And probably in the end, you will pay more than just buying the M3 to begin with... and not even have the performance to go with the look.
GeorgeM3SMG 01-16-2007, 11:46 AM Don't go there.
Don't be that guy (or gal).
The only thing worse than covering a fine automobile like a BMW with a ton of after market crap to try to make it look like something it's not is
not being able to back it up when the light turns green.
Thanks for the replies guys.
i dont mean a total identical car....
what i was interested in was:
-m3 front bumper
-side skirts
-mirrors
-m3 replica rims
-back bumper
I have heard that fitting an m3 back bumper is very difficult and not worthit. I wanted to ask, what are good bumpers to put in the back that will give my BMW a good look? Are they easy to fit?
greenmeansgo 01-16-2007, 01:38 PM Just get an aftermarket body kit from AC Schnitzer or suchlike if you want to dress up your car. That way, you'll have a unique car but won't look like a tool trying to pose as an M3. I think you'll find most M car owners to be true gearheads and therefore harbor a keen dislike for posers. We buy an M for what's under the hood, not what's on it.
Get an aftermarket body kit and maintain your dignity.

The reason the bumpers are hard to fit is because the front and rear quarter panels are different. Basically, the roof, and maybe the decklid, are the only things that are the same between the 330i coupe and the M3. The front bumper, rear bumper, doors, quarter panels, and hood are all different.
Also, I don't think the M wheels will fit on the 330i correctly because the fenders on the M3 are flared more to fit them under. I think they would stick out on a regular 3-series coupe.
That being said, you can make a regular 3-series coupe look really hot with all the aftermarket parts available for them.....the sky's the limit.... oh wait, actually your wallet is the limit.
hockey21 01-16-2007, 04:51 PM dont make it look like a m3, get a 330i or something and just put ac shnitzer or hamann parts on it, that will look better- Instead of spending 2000 on BMW m3 rims get like BBS or something
VADER13 01-16-2007, 05:40 PM just get the e46m3
mert1 01-16-2007, 06:01 PM If you are gonna do that put an M3 engine&tranny and surprise the shit out of a lot people.
Unless you have the 3.2 liter M powerhouse. You shouldn't really try to make it look like an M...
mysticm3 01-16-2007, 07:45 PM You'll never get a regular e46 to look exactly like an M3. Would cost way too much $$.
^^^ like he said. it would be easier to just buy an M than to replicate it.
shiloh328i 01-16-2007, 11:37 PM Why would you want too, its so much easier to buy one
