View Full Version : It's a girl !! 1982 323i BAUR
yellowdog9 01-15-2007, 08:13 PM A 1982 323i BAUR. I don’t know much about these cars (or much about cars period) , but I really love the lines on the e21 body and I stumbled across this one which was miss listed by someone’s wife as an ’89 BMW. I probably paid too much, but what the heck. I’m not afraid to read up and dive in. Worse case I may need some local <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State><st1:place>Massachusetts</st1:place></st1:State> help if I get in over my head.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
Evidently her name is Brandy since that’s what was written on the engine. I got no story on the car’s history other than it was a <st1:State><st1:place>California</st1:place></st1:State> car and was obviously loved/restored by someone at some point. No rust other than a tiny amount of surface rust under one of the rear lights – barely noticeable. She runs like a champ and made a 3.5 hour trip back to <st1:City><st1:place>Boston</st1:place></st1:City> from CT with no issues – other than the fact that the radio doesn’t work which made for a long trip. The top and in<st1:PersonName>teri</st1:PersonName>or are immaculate and all the lights on the dash work. Lots of other goodies like vented brakes and upgraded suspension. Not too crazy about the 17” rims/tires but they do the job.
<o:p> </o:p>
I already have about 20 question for the forum, but I’ll hold back for now. Since winter has arrived in <st1:City><st1:place>Boston</st1:place></st1:City>, there’s no rush just yet.
<o:p> </o:p>
Here are some pics – just add www to the front and cut/paste.

blitzed310 01-15-2007, 08:21 PM Thats a great looking E21. If your going to put 17's on, I guess BBS would be a good choice. If you want to sell them, I might be interested if the price is right.
I hosted the pics for you ;)

SDKmann 01-15-2007, 08:26 PM Wow that is beautiful!
Kevin E21 01-15-2007, 08:31 PM Wow! Looks great! Congratulations on the purchase. I'd better see that thing cruising around the lake during the summer!
yellowdog9 01-15-2007, 08:37 PM Thanks for posting the pics. When I find some smaller rims I'll let you know.
Kevin- I hope to drop the top and cruise by the lake every chance I get.
djminkin 01-15-2007, 08:40 PM The wheels make the car, why do you want smaller ones? Car looks great.
dillwad 01-15-2007, 08:43 PM WOW you did it.
Good job.And congrats on a nice looking BMW.
This site has lots of good info infact i am sitting here now reading stuff spend way to much time here .
rjk3rd320is 01-15-2007, 08:44 PM awesome car. top condition. i would take the carpet cover off of the dash tho... other than that, it looks excellent.
yellowdog9 01-15-2007, 08:52 PM Dash has a few cracks in the top. Either a dash cover or trip to a vinyl repair shop is in the future.
pnosker 01-15-2007, 08:54 PM Wow the angles of the dash look so similar to my 318ti. Nice going!
dub2shoe 01-15-2007, 09:07 PM incredibly gorgeous car. The color and wheels look great. it's weird... the diving boards actually look good on your car :shifty
BruceH 01-15-2007, 09:19 PM 17" don't belong on e21s. IMHO
sonomaGTLN2 01-15-2007, 09:44 PM excellent car. Do you know what kind of shock/spring combo is on the car (just wondering since you said the suspension looks upgraded)? Good luck with everything!
AJ
theeue 01-15-2007, 09:54 PM 17" don't belong on e21s. IMHO
I like personally like the look of the stock 13'' wheels...
yellowdog9 01-15-2007, 10:07 PM EIBACH springs, Koni Adj. Shocks. Supersprint exhaust and hartge front air dam.
welderman 01-15-2007, 10:44 PM i looked at those pics and i started to pop a woody i would say brandy is damn hot for an older woman heh heh
DHoang 01-15-2007, 10:49 PM incredibly gorgeous car. The color and wheels look great. it's weird... the diving boards actually look good on your car :shifty
I was just about to say the same. THose bumpers actually look magnificent on that car!
IT's nice to see such a well kept baur. The baur is one of a kind.
KevRC4130 01-15-2007, 10:57 PM Hey, congrats on the purchase. I'm also in Wakefield, I'll keep an eye out for you driving around, I can't wait to see a Baur in person!
e21enthusiast 01-15-2007, 11:56 PM the paint looks amazing is that stock or a respray?euro bumbers are just going to compliment the cars lines even more. how much did you pay? ive wanted a baur for too long.looks :buttrockgood
jjgbmw323 01-16-2007, 12:00 AM Thanks for posting the pics. When I find some smaller rims I'll let you know.
Kevin- I hope to drop the top and cruise by the lake every chance I get.
Then we should all get together as my car is almost ready and I am a street over from the lake.
Nice baur.
BARRY E36 M325 01-16-2007, 04:13 AM I need a napkin. Or tissue. Damn.
I love that color.:buttrock Damn. Damn damn. I envy you. I want it. Gorgeous acquisition. Absolutely gorgeous. Two thumbs waay up over here.
yellowdog9 01-16-2007, 08:56 AM I think it was a respray, but they did a real nice job. The only way I could tell was there was some sprayed a little on a sticker under the hood.
For all those wondering for market value I paid a little over $8k.
jjgbmw323 01-16-2007, 07:43 PM The cost of a good paint job varies...depending on the shop and the condition of the body. I have spent way over the 5 k mark but mine was rotted and I replaced all sorts of panels.
Did you check for rust in the usual places? The rockers, tail lights, and inner rear fender wells for example?
It seems like you got a good deal. Feel free to stop by for me to take a look.
And I will show you my 323i...I am on right near the lake. PM me.
Also you may want to check the timing belt..thats the weak spot on the m20.
AlaskaBimmer 01-18-2007, 09:08 PM Welcome to the fold that make 3 US based Baurs on this board.
I have a 1981 323i Baur tc1 #3023. there are plenty of resources for these cars and a few of us know about them. BruceH here has restored his Baur. another good site is tricord a few more Baur people there too.
Grats on the find, get the euro bumpers and dump those wheels for some 15s...they just don't look right (to me anyway).
I'm not on my home pc atm so I don't have my bookmarks for Baur stuff handy.
Some kind of work has been done on your car the Baur plate in the engine bay is screwed on, it should be rivited on.
yellowdog9 01-18-2007, 10:11 PM Send over those Baur bookmarks when you get a chance. I need any help I can get. Definitely working on dropping down to some 15's, then I'll work on the bumpers.
There was definitely some work done at some point. I have no history unfortunately, but it looks like most of what they did, they did it right.
Thanks for the tips.
M1 #43022 01-20-2007, 12:27 AM Nice Baur!!!

Let me know when you guys are getting together, and I'll stop by too.
yellowdog9 01-20-2007, 12:17 PM I think Mon/Tues work for me. Need to check with the boss. I'll drop you guys a line.
Car is still not registered - seller signed the title in the wrong spot .. registry sucks .. you know the rest.
Kevin E21 01-20-2007, 02:17 PM I get out of work at 7 usually, but it only takes me 5 minutes to get home.
AlaskaBimmer 01-21-2007, 04:58 AM ok here are some sites for you.
http://www.bmw-baur-tc-club.de/ that one is a german site, but it's only Baurs....if you have google toolbar you can right click and translate the page to something close to English.
http://www.wallothnesch.com/e/framewelcome.htm these guys carry lots of baur parts
http://e21.tricord.be/ tricord great E-21 site as well
some of these have been posted here in other spots.
Have fun with the Baur, I can't wait to dig mine out of the snow and drive it again. 2 more months to go, April 1st I'm driving it even if it gets dirty from snowmelt....I can't drive the Baur from nov 1st -March 31st since it won't pass emmisions being a euro model with no emmisions crap on it in the first place....
Taiko 01-21-2007, 08:23 AM That's a gorgeous colour yellowdog, love the rims but if there ever was a car that needed European bumpers; that's it. Personally I wouldn't change the rims, I think they look great. They are quality BBS items too. Have fun with it, and welcome to the elite. ;)
yellowdog9 01-21-2007, 12:40 PM Thanks for all the compliments. One of these days I may even get to actually drive it ....
AlaskaBimmer - thanks for the sites.
