I was a little worried. ZKW Euro Headlights, aftermarket HID's... LED tail lights... Tinted windows (legal tint thankfully)... 18" wheels...

They didn't even bat an eyelash. Unfortuately they wouldn't do my emissions. They said if you're registered in Davis County, you have to I/M in Davis County :mad

When the &#^$ did that happen? I've been I/M'ing my Davis County cars in SL County for years (including last year)!

Now when I take my car to a DC I/M, they'll probably revoke my safety cert because of the HID's or something...

That's interesting about the Davis County Thing.

Glad you've got 1/2 of the battle over with. ;)

If you've already got a pass I think you're OK.
Just tell them you don't need safety. Just IM

Yep, that is true. You have to I-M in where the car is registered, because different counties have different emissions standards (although I think Salt Lake and Davis are the same: strict).

Do what Ant said, just tell them you need I-M. Do NOT go to Davis County central testing center unless you have to (each year, Davis County picks a random model year and makes all vehicles due for safety/I-M go to the central testing center). They are NAZI's there. When I lived in Woods X, I had to go there due to the lame rule. They failed me on I-M because they "couldn't find a CARB number on the headers," yet the car, with 3.2 and custom software, passed the sniffer/dyno test with ease. It was cleaner than the stock 2.5 liter on stock software.

Then they failed me on safety due to clear corner front turn signals.

Yeah, it's good to have the safety done. It will be I/M only, that's for sure. Two years ago, my car was 'randomly' picked to go to that central I/M station in Kaysville. Luckily the system is bone stock and runs well. There were no issues. I don't think it's very fair that they require you to drive to Kaysville however.

Keith, when they didn't pass your clears, did you have amber bulbs or clear bulbs in them? I have white corners, but amber bulbs, so when you turn them on, they look very much amber.

I need to do my I/M & safety this month. I'm a little worried about my permanent ASC light.. anyone had trouble with this - having them think it was a checking engine light or something?

So, what do you guys do if your tint is too dark? is there someone you suggest taking the car to?

Davis County Central is the only place I've ever had a problem with clears, and I've had them since I bought the car in 2000. Like I said, they are Nazi's there.

They said you needed to have some amber reflective material. There is actually a BMW part number for this for people who buy OE clears in the US. Its a small amber reflector that sticks onto the turn signal. They had no answer when I pointed out that several new cars come with clear setups from the factory. I think they just saw a modified car and knew it couldn't be legal or something.

The only other problem I've had is I went to one place in Salt Lake and was told they would not safety the car because the "shocks are too stiff." I'll leave it at that.

Matty, you're talking about the ASC light from removing the ASC TB right? You should be OK. If not, give me a ring. I bought a new one to go with my car when it sells, you can borrow it. I'll even help install it :wave
