I have a 1980 320i with a carburated 2002 M10 motor from 1975 I believe. The motor is also using a DGAV 32/36 Weber. The original 1.8liter motor blew and this was installed. I found a rough but drives 1982 320i and was considering installing the fuel injection from that motor onto my motor. They are both M10 motors and have that same part numbers for intake manifold gaskets. I think the 2.0 will have better fuel economy and possibly better performance. I currently get 19 mpg on the Highway and sometimes 21 mpg at its best. Yes I think the Weber probally needs some tuning of its own.
Is there any reason I would not be able to do this?
Any points of concern anyone would like to make?

There is no replacement for displacement.

I put an m10 from a 1981 320 into a 2002. Tossed the kjet and put on a Weber 38/38. Kept the 320 ignition system.

I would toss the kjet and keep the weber. You are going to have to dial down the fuel pressure quite a bit if you do that as your kjet injectors open at 50psi and the Weber likes 4psi.

The above assumes that you don't have emission control issues.

Why don't you get another m10 engine with fuel injection? It will save time trying to make it work.

I found an article about putting 318i injection on a 2002 motor. A lot of those would not be issues for me since I would simply be converting back to my original format.

One of my main interest is to convert the car back to stock for autoX because Weber would honestly put it in street prepared.

The motor is a 2 liter M10 and I believe you are allowed to back date or update in scca but I have not checked those rules in a while.

I have been told that the cis injectors go into the head and not the intake manifold like the 318i does.

It depends on which e21 head you have. '77-'79 2.0L engines have the e21 casting head with no injector holes-the injectors are in the intake. '80-'83 1.8L engines have the 1.8L casting head with the injectors in the head.

So, will the 80-83 injectors fit into the 77-79 intake manifold?

Zygmunt Motors listed the same part numbers for the injectors but different numbers for the seals.

What is the general consensus on the differences between the 320 2.0 and the 1.8 in terms of drivability and performance? I have read a few conflicting things about the 2.0 being the performer but the 1.8 being a better driver.
