Has anyone Turbo'd an M30 6cyl?

I'm about to embark on building a turbo for my 8/90 e32 735, and it's RHD! I have rebuilt with reground crank, main bearings, forged pistons, Schrick 284 cam, performance rockers and dual springs etc. Todd @ TCD has been really helpful and he has just finished a new RHD manifold so save me making one!

Rather than just chipping and using the AFM sensor I was thinking a MAP based system would be the best way to go?! This would mean i have to buy a new ECU and add a manual throttle body with TPSensor etc.

Can anyone can help with ideas, intercoolers which fit? I also have a small problem because my car is RHD and my steering column is in the way. Interested to know if anyone has had this prob also?

Can't add pics yet due to less than 20 posts!

They are tough motors. I did my 535is almost ten years ago with 745i parts. Its a fun car.

Th auto box suck though. unless you have a five speed.

good luck.

thanks Gary and yeah it's a 5 speed thankfully

You'll have fun with it. I would just stick a Autroic ECU in it and call Andreas in Sweden :cool programable is nice. If you change something you don't need to get a new chip burned for it.

Theres also another RHD manifold option that recently became available :devillook

hey JV, that looks awsome and i guess this gives less chance of back pressure than the TCD manifold by the look of it! Goig to have a look at the link now.

I have heard an Autroic ECU is the best way to go and have a friend about to stick one on his Evo 1, bless.

todd did a turbo kit for a car in portugal not to long ago, guessing that one was right hand drive.........ask him about that one.

Thanks! I just listed info on the manifold to the website now if your interested.

Autronic is definatly a very good way to go. :buttrock

Wow, that a very very nice manifold! I am using this on my RHD M30 I know what will be replacing it now! Whats the wastegete set up on this? Is there clearance with the steering box good or does the motor have to be shimmed.
P.S. Autronic is simply awesome, worth the money.

Thanks! Ive found a decent number of photos showing the placement of the RHD steering box. By measuring points between the motor and the chassis that are the same as LHD cars and comparing... there should be about an inch of clearance between the bottom of the manifold and the steering box. The wastegate hasnt been added to the manifold in the photos of course but it will come off the rear of the merge collector in similar fashion to our M20 manifolds.

Sorry to the original poster for going OT, but Jon, the pics on your site appear to show an that manifold on an M30 in an E30 chassis is it? Do you know what the set up would look like in an E34? It would be cool if you could do a manifold and 3" dump pipe combo already plumed up for the WG for specific chassis types.

No pics in an E34 yet. Should look very similar except maybe a bit more room between the fender well. The manifold pictured is in a E23 733. I do however need to test fit it to an E30. We will most likely offer downpipes in the future. At this point we're just trying to get the turbo manifold applications covered as the downpipes (at least for LHD cars) are pretty simple even more most back yard guys.

Jon, just tossing out some ideas here... if I ship you a RHD steering rack + lower steering joint can you build me a manifold+downpipe? Basically all topmounts bolt onto RHD's just fine.. it's just the downpipe routing that becomes tricky.. :)

The RHD rack bolts right up to the LHD crossmember... This is on a E36 chassis and it'll have to be a topmount... I don't care if it's not equal length or even if it's a log-style manifold... us RHD guys are starved of turbo options :(

How did you handle the IC when using 745i parts? I'm hoping to find an FMIC that fits behind the bumper cover. Did you run the turbo to IC pipe below the engine mount? Or did you move things around?

I'm also interested in a RHD topmount + dump pipe for e36 m3 :)
