This was a race I was waiting for a while to go down. I used to go to school with the guy in the mustang gt. When I had my 330 he used to always instigate races and I would lose. Since that time he got many modifications. They include: 4.10 gears, drag radials, long tube headers, intake, and exhaust. My friend who has a chipped s4 (blew his turbos last week, sucks) set up the race between us since the guy with the mustang lives next door.

I pull up and he is not as confident as he was before. Before he would talk about how m3's are not as fast as everyone says they are and he has beat many in his GT. His story changed when I pulled up and he was unsure of himself :) We picked a safe place to race and each of us had a person in the car. The race would be from a stop.

We get to the spot and roll down the windows, we would go on 3. I am using launch control in s6. 1, 2, 3 we are off. I pull one full car in first gear. Into second I pull another car making the total 2. Into third gear he is in my rearview mirror I would say 4.5 cars behind. He shuts down at this point.

We get back to the house and he says I kicked his ass. I said it was good fun and a good race, and his GT is about as fast as the few cobras (99-01) that I have beat. Overall good fun, and the GT is no slouch.

Nice race! Great kill!! :buttrock

Oh, and it was a "race" cuz you had the sack to run him from a dead stop ;) (if the Mustang had any advantage, it would have been the hole-shot, especially with 4.10's, DR's, etc..)

Nicely done! :alright

Yea I was suprised first gear belonged to me with his short gears. I went for a ride in the mustang later on in the night, for some reason, it feels sooooo much faster then my m3. Maybe it is because im not driving, but damn, on feel alone it seems a lot faster.

Yeah, they do. Even my 99 GT "felt" faster than my Z3 (when it was stock) eventhough I got my 99 GT to a 13.91 and my Z3 3.0 to a 13.89 (when it was stock)- they were essentially an even match, but the Mustang "felt" 10 times faster....

And once I read that you got a lead in 1st gear, I knew it was over... Nice Kill! :buttrock

As defined by Merriam-Webster in their latest edition of the English Dictionary:

Main Entry: race
Pronunciation: 'rAs
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English ras, from Old Norse rAs; akin to Old English r[AE]s rush
Date: 14th century
1 chiefly Scottish : the act of running
2 a : a strong or rapid current of water flowing through a narrow channel b : a watercourse used industrially c : the current flowing in such a course
3 a : a set course or duration of time b : the course of life
4 a : a contest of speed b plural : a meeting in which several races (as for horses) are run c : a contest or rivalry involving progress toward a goal <pennant race>
5 : a track or channel in which something rolls or slides; specifically : a groove (as for the balls) in a bearing -- see ROLLER BEARING illustration

Please note numbers three and four:

"3 a : a set course or duration of time"
"4 a : a contest of speed"

A set course or duration of time or a contest of speed. This does not distinguish "from a stop" vs. "from a roll" to identify "racing."

Yes, I'm quite aware that a "DRAG race" is from a stop. But you've been heard to say, many times before, that it ain't racing unless it's from a stop.

So, I took the liberty of looking up "race" for everyone. :D

No clue, never asked him if he had been to the track. I can find out today if you want.

Sure... I was just curious what he ran. What year GT was it, also? 94-98??

Anyways, my best 1/8-mile is 9.1 @ 78 MPH. And my best 1/4-mile is 14.2 @ 99 MPH. (See sig for car/mods)
