I was able to find a local machine shop in my area, the guy is pretty reputable; knows BMW. I wanted to get a quote on a engine rebuild, for my turbo project. I told him I wanted the follwing done. However I'm still waiting for his reponse.

1. Balance and blueprint
2. Valves and Springs
3. Rod and Pistions
4. Knife edge crank (?)
5. Port and Polish (?)
6. All seals


With repect to (Porting) I was told that our heads breath very well and porting was not essential. Not sure how true this is? What do you guys think? Maybe a light port job would suffice?

Knife edge crank. Anyone recommend this modifcation.? If there are things that I've missed or failed to mention when doing a rebuild please feel free to comment. The more info, the better I can safe-guard myself.
