Im graduatin college this summer and have a job lined up and will be living at home so what better way to spend my money than on an nice e46 M3 but I wanted to drive one before I actually buy it. I knew there was no way a dealer would let a 22 yr old kid take a M3 for test drive. Luckily for me a local used car dealer had one in stock. Now it wasnt easy, the first time I went to drive it they had sent it to their other dealership. Seconf time there was only one guy and I guess he didnt trust me. Third times a charm, finally got to take it for a ride and OH MY GOD! It was so much better than I could have imagined. So comfortable, so smooth. I didnt beat on it since I just takin it for a fun drive, but I could feel the power. The gearbox was as smooth as butter. Now I want one even more:redspot

I was able to test drive a brand new competition package M3 before I bought mine and I was only 24 at the time.

You should get an experienced M3 owner to give you a ride. I am sure you just barely scratched the surface ;)

the place by me, harloff BMW, you CANT test drive anything ///M unless you have money on the table, and i freaking pulled up in my m3, showed it to them, and said, my dad is considering trading in for smg, anything i can drive....answer was no....

but definitly take a car out with an experienced owner...hehe, and hold the freak on!

if you can find one to rip into you will be even more surprised. and if it has anything done to it like exhaust or suspension you will fall even more in love with the car. have fun test driving cars.

You guys dont know how lucky you are, no way a 22 or 24 yr old could afford to buy or insure an M3 (46) here in the UK. To insure it would be like £5000 ($10,000) per year.

I wanna move to the US

Dont worry I am well aware I didnt come close to the capabilities of the M3 and I could tell there was plenty left while I was drivin. I learned the hard way a while back too take it slow til you know the car. Im pretty much set on gettin one this summer I just wanted to make sure it was goin to work for me. But if anyone wants to offer me a real ride Id be game.

im only 21 and i got to drive an e60 M5(with just my father in the car... he later bought the car(AWESOME BTW)) and i got to drive my CPO 04 M3 on a test drive by myself before purchasing it...

I think rollin up in an 06 M5 helped... but i had no issues with them letting me drive it.

When I went to a Cadillac dealership to test drive a CTS-V they didn't have any, but they did have a CTS with a manual transmission. The salesman kept asking me "you're not going to peel this thing out, are you?" (yes, for a stock CTS) This was after being pretty much ignored the first time I went by there. Apparently losing a $50k sale was no problem for them, so I took my buisness to BMW.

I can understand a dealer wanting to make sure you're a serious buyer. At the same time I'm sure more than a few of you can relate to the frustration of poor customer service.

yeah they are! are you the LSB m3 at mira costa? i went by there the other day to pick some stuff up, there was a sliver one pulling out, and a LSB parked in the parking lot( san elligo campus), jet black next to LSB was very hot.

yeah, they are strict. sadly so. we were considering SMG because my dad still drives the car, although, we went out to harmony grove, and well, we are gonna stay with standard for now.

its becasue of jackasses like me that just go test drive cars becasue they are bored, of course we arnt going to test drive minivans we are going to drive the cool fast cars. all it takes is smooth talking a good poker face and getting a good sales guy, it also helps alot to pull up in a nice car. I am always respectful of the cars. me and my friend were able to take a sti when they first came out and diddnt take it past 4k becasue it only had like 20miles (it sucked) I was suprized that the dealer actually said somthing about break-in, most of the time the sales person just cranks it up and redlines it out of the parking lot, Im like "i'll be ordering my car thanks" it sucks though eather the car isnt what you were expecting, or it makes you contimplate castration if that were a way to get one.

t6driver: do you fly one of those things? into gainesville alot? I see one of those planes there like every five seconds. they are really sweet I was talking to a guy in one and he told me they pull 7g's. I want one.

promp3-

You're probably seeing the T-6s out of Moody AFB. I think some of us in Pcola do go through there, but it's not very often. They are a lot of fun to fly

As for the dealers- I wonder how many people think like I do: that if I don't like the dealership/salesman, I don't buy the car. It could be that the volume is so low they don't have to care.

But how many times has someone gone to a store and bought something they didn't plan on initially. No test drives=lost opportunity to make a sale.
