View Full Version : Odd Request of the NJ peeps
Bimmer8604 01-14-2007, 05:12 PM So, I just moved out to NJ for BMW STEP Training, and I cant get ahold of a friend I met while I lived in Cali. His name is Andrew, and has a Avus Blue e36 m3 with a 3.2 S50 MM Motor.
Oh, and this place sucks, nothing to do out here, if anybody in the northern NJ area is bored or knows of somethin going on, lemme know.
kyle
GODJESUS 01-14-2007, 05:38 PM where in north NJ?
Bimmer8604 01-14-2007, 05:44 PM Upper Saddle River area. Technically I live in the awesome area known as Elmwood Park, just next door to Paterson. Sofar I haven't been impressed with this area...

///M3 CRAZY 01-14-2007, 06:37 PM what sort of things do you enjoy doing? there is everything to do out here. you just happen to be in the quiet suburbs and it's winter.
AndrewH 01-14-2007, 08:37 PM meh, Southern NJ>Northern NJ. i live 5 minutes from the beach if you like that sort of thing.
Cereal Killa 01-14-2007, 09:17 PM meh, Southern NJ>Northern NJ. i live 5 minutes from the beach if you like that sort of thing.
North NJ > South :stickoutt
sogood 01-14-2007, 09:18 PM NNJ ftw.
Eat taylor ham egg and cheeses and your loca bagel shop.
You wont know how you lived without them.
Mad Machine 01-14-2007, 09:52 PM the southern end of the state is MUCH better. Less people, less cars, more beaches, casinos, and a lot less of that industrial smell
Bimmer8604 01-14-2007, 10:50 PM thanks for the info guys. i know ive only been here for 2 weeks and its hard to make a final decision as of whether or not i like this place, but i sure havent liked what i've seen the past few days. i'll try those taylor ham and eggs, sound good. we have a lot of bagel/deli places around here. anybody know anything about BFest East? I was at BFest last year and it was a blast, would be nice to know if anything like that happened around here this time of year.
kyle
GODJESUS 01-14-2007, 11:50 PM There will be meets come spring. Umm, carreraboy (his car was car of the moment a while back) lives around there and ive seen his car at this one meet, it was CRAZY!!! Yea, but you could go to the delaware water gap, not far from north jersey. Beaches i reccoment are a lil south, island beach state park and so on. Atlantic city should be like 1.5 hours away, maybe a lil more. There NYC and philly is pretty nice, philly should be like 1.5 hours also.
///M3 CRAZY 01-15-2007, 12:10 AM again what are you into so we can help you find what you are looking for.
Julian 01-15-2007, 12:49 AM North NJ > South :stickoutt
Central NJ > Other NJ
Though south NJ is weirdest of all.
///M3 CRAZY 01-15-2007, 01:13 AM oh and anything south of route 22 and west of 206 should not be considered NJ anymore. people are very different out those parts.
Julian 01-15-2007, 01:18 AM ^werrd, around here (bridgewater) south of 22 is considered low income haha
Grey Phox 01-15-2007, 02:37 AM oh and anything south of route 22 and west of 206 should not be considered NJ anymore. people are very different out those parts.
lol i live right off 206 too!
frankmb 01-15-2007, 01:22 PM Go into the city or go to Hoboken, lots of bars and what not.
JTFormula 01-15-2007, 01:27 PM NNJ ftw.
Eat taylor ham egg and cheeses and your loca bagel shop.

PEC SPK - Pork Roll Egg Cheese - Salt Pepper Ketchup
MMmmmm.... Pork Roll.....
KR98E36 01-15-2007, 02:47 PM central jersy ftw, and explain why anything below 22 shouldnt be considered jersy, if anything, south west jersy shouldnt be considered jersy cause theyre all eagles fans.

Hey!! Who beat who last week>? (but lost this week..:( )
ehlpitel 01-15-2007, 03:13 PM take a bus or train into NYC and hit some bars up.
Bavarian Fan 01-15-2007, 06:11 PM Or the short hand version:
PEC SPK - Pork Roll Egg Cheese - Salt Pepper Ketchup
MMmmmm.... Pork Roll.....
its actually a TEC SPK. T=Taylor ham. but regardless make sure you get spk
sogood 01-15-2007, 06:57 PM Pork Roll is taylor ham so its the same thing, and of course, SPK is a must.
Wasiq 01-15-2007, 08:30 PM Dude Paterson is GHETTO, no wonder you don't like the area....
Mad Machine 01-15-2007, 08:49 PM If you came down to AC, I could possibly show you the casinos.. but I am only allowed in two of them to Gamble.. Tropicana and Hilton. The rest are companies I work for.
switlikbob 01-16-2007, 11:17 AM There is so much to do in this area it's unreal. You have NY City and Philly to go see...you could spend a week easily in either of these cities...there's tons of stuff to do in NJ as well...plus, you have to Poconos pretty close by...IIRC, you can hit up the Pocono race track...I think they have days where you can drive on it, but I don't remember for sure...AC is always interesting, to say the least...there's plenty of places to go skiing up in NY & CT...
But, where you live, in that immediate area, it's all pretty ghetto...whatever you do, please do NOT venture into Patterson after dark...
seeyalaterrr 01-16-2007, 11:32 AM Elmwood Park is srsly ftl, my cousins live there. Your not far from Paramus where there is a mall and plenty other things to do.
BTW we live in Jersey therefore its TAYLOR HAM, Pork roll pshhh South jersey ftl.
Grey Phox 01-16-2007, 01:01 PM BTW we live in Jersey therefore its TAYLOR HAM, Pork roll pshhh South jersey ftl.
:rofl
GODJESUS 01-16-2007, 01:10 PM pork roll and "wooder" and jimmies on our ice cream.
///M3 CRAZY 01-16-2007, 01:36 PM just be glad you are not on the eastern shore in MD. i went to college there and they have this nasty shit called Scrapple. it is all the left over shit from a pig and just compressed together. they pan fry it like bacon (looks kinda like spam) and it is just fuckin nasty.
Ohtwo 01-16-2007, 02:45 PM Old Bridge Englishtown, Raceway Park. They have a drag stip, free cruise nights every Tuesday and they are working on a road course. They also have a few Motocross tracks.
You have alot of stuff in the surrounding areas to do, like Philly, NYC, beach and all that. I agree on there being nothing to do on a daily basis though. I find it to be like that everywhere, so go figure.
If you have any questions, just ask away. We (I) don't have anything to do anyway :lol BTW, I'm going to UTI for about 4 months now and I'm going to school at the Exton campus in PA for basic automotive training, so I know your situation. I may try to do the STEP program as well. How old are you?
JTFormula 01-18-2007, 02:56 PM Actually the cruise is only the second Tues of each month, not every tues.
I have lived in Monmouth Co all of my life and we always called it Pork Roll not Taylor Ham.
GottaLoveAvus 01-18-2007, 09:51 PM Central NJ > Other NJ

:alright :alright :alright :alright :alright :alright :alright :redspot
95325i 01-18-2007, 10:37 PM This area has so much to do... NYC by its self has so much to offer, dinning, night life, culture.
What kinda stuff do you like to do? The biggest thing now is that it is winter so there really is not much to do outside like if you don’t like the cold but, still thing are around...
Do a Google of something that you want to do and type NJ or NY and things will come up.

Yes Paterson sucks I would not want to go any closer then driving past it on I80.
switlikbob 01-19-2007, 10:58 AM Just to clear up the Taylor Ham / Pork Roll debate...this is a quote from wikipedia.com:
"Taylor is the brand name for pork roll made by Taylor Provisions, Inc., of Trenton. Taylor also manufactures pork roll under the Trenton brand . . . Other companies making pork roll include crosstown rival Case Pork Roll Company and Kohler Provisions and Loeffler Gourmet."
Some good advice: Never eat Loeffler's porkroll. It tastes like sh*t!
I feel sorry for the peeps in North Jersey. The were never introduced to scrapple.

I feel bad that all you south NJers call it Pork Roll and not Taylor Ham.
ejeffreysix 01-23-2007, 05:55 PM If you like to snowboard, Mountain Creek is in Vernon, Camelback is right over in PA... If you want to buy coke or mug somebody, you can walk a few blocks to Paterson... This place is great!
ejeffreysix 01-23-2007, 05:57 PM P.S. anybody from sussex/morris.... Ted's Deli in stanhope... I promise you that you will never have a better THEC SPK anywhere in the world. Trust me- have an open mind and just go- Get two and you will be fulfilled for the entire day. It is basically a weekend morning ritual for everyone in the town. God I can't wait for Saturday...
Hawkster 01-28-2007, 01:25 AM Hey man, I assume you went to UTI? Rancho Campus? I graduated from the Exton campus in July. You should be in STEP with my old room mate, Josh Drumheller.
Anyway, if you ever feel like cruising down here (Trenton) it's about an hour and a half down the Turnpike... it smells less down here. Plus, we use proper terminology... like Pork Roll, Hoagies, Wooder, etc. Fuck that "Taylor Ham" "Hero/Sub/whatever" and "Water" crap... we're the real deal....
EuroBeem 01-28-2007, 01:36 AM soda pop hahahaha

Where are you at in Hamilton? I work in Trenton near Broad & Market. I live south of Bordentown in Florence.
AndrewH 01-28-2007, 12:52 PM North NJ > South :stickoutt
Sorry, I asked Jesus yesterday and he agreed that South NJ> North
Hawkster 01-29-2007, 03:30 PM Where are you at in Hamilton? I work in Trenton near Broad & Market. I live south of Bordentown in Florence.
Right by AMC movie theater... on the other side of Quakerbridge Rd...
seeyalaterrr 01-29-2007, 03:50 PM It does say pork roll on the ham package, but the prominence of the word Taylor is one reason why it has come to be known as such, at least in North Jersey. South Jerseyans tend to call it Taylor pork roll. Other companies came along and also made pork roll, but to a true New Jerseyan, North or South, these imitations are of little consequence: there is only one Taylor ham.
And since we (NORTH) call it Taylor Ham, North NJ > central/south.
:)
Grey Phox 01-29-2007, 08:23 PM P.S. anybody from sussex/morris.... Ted's Deli in stanhope... I promise you that you will never have a better THEC SPK anywhere in the world. Bagel Tree in Franklin had a pretty good THEC. I used to go there pretty often on my way to school (Wallkill Valley). I used to live in Ogdensburg BTW. I just moved to Flanders in 05'. In Flanders theres this Bagel Shop on 206.........bangin thec!
North NJ > central/south.
:)
word!
Julian 01-29-2007, 09:20 PM And since we (NORTH) call it Taylor Ham, North NJ > central/south.

+1. I've been sayin Taylor Ham my entire life.
Wiseguy ON 01-30-2007, 05:54 AM Hmm.
Nice thing about Elmwood park is that you're close to Clifton. CLifton has a bar on Valley Rd called Bogey's. Good food until 3am.
kevkev911 01-30-2007, 12:11 PM NNJ ftw.
Eat taylor ham egg and cheeses and your loca bagel shop.

thats right, the bagels are sooo much better here :redspot

Bagel tree scares me, strange old men grabbing and yelling at me. I don't go there anymore.
Sedge 01-30-2007, 11:40 PM I will use my first post in these forums to add to the pointless and never ending struggle between North and South Jersey.
Monmouth County bred here, so I'm calling it Central Jersey. Sprinkles, not Jimmies. The beach, not the shore. "The City" is NYC, not Philly (even though I live in Philly now). The list goes on.
Oh, and in my town (Howell) it was always Pork Roll, but regardless, its freakin' delicious.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, these are great forums and I've learned a lot so far. Everyone stop bickering and help the man find something to do.
Your area of Jersey is indeed quite dull, especially in winter, but I'm gonna have to agree with the Englishtown track, NYC on nice nights/weekends, and generally just wait for Spring and make some friends. Any area of the country will suck if its new and you don't want it to be better than your hometown.

Glad the state can agree on something.
There is plenty of snow now, if you wanna try mountain creek. Your about 45 min away.
