View Full Version : Question about e28 Hartge H5s
fightinscot 01-14-2007, 12:57 AM I have looked everywhere, searched this forum, searched google etc, but have yet to find much about the Hartge H5s. First question, what are the specs on it? Second, about how much would one go for in the States? I appreciate any sort of info about it.

bmwe28boy 01-15-2007, 12:04 AM There is one for sale somewhere around you for $12,000. It is Bahama Beige. That price is probably a bit optimistic as I think it needs some new seat leathers and some other things.
The H5s puts down a ball park 240HP. There are not too many of these in the states.

Local lot has one but I have not had the chance to ask him specs or price. Besides some interior wear, it is in great shape.

Look on cardomain , ride 269576
fightinscot 01-15-2007, 06:09 PM I was able to check today, it is $12,990 to be exact. I bought my 328 from him, so I know the car is solid, as he only sells cars in tip top shape. I would love to have it, but I need something more on the daily driver level. Eric, the owner, has had it for 3 or 4 months now, and if I am lucky enough he will have it a couple more so I can get some money banked.
E12M535i 01-16-2007, 03:48 PM Roundel had a feature story in January 2002 on this exact car. The story featured the Turbo 2002, and Alpina B6 converted to a 3.5, and the bahama biege Hartge H5. The H5 was imported by Performance Plus (who imported most Hartges back in the day). Good luck.

That is funny that is my pic I took from fiverfest 2 years ago. I talked to Trey very cool guy and a very nice car. Get him to come down on the price and I can help you out with your interior.

Wiseguy ON 02-02-2007, 10:24 PM FWIW, there's apparently only one H5sp in existence. It's in Germany and needs some work. I am told only a small handful were ever made.
Dark Helmet 02-03-2007, 06:39 PM so bill... when are you going to buy that sp????
Wiseguy ON 02-06-2007, 11:41 PM As SOON as it's for sale! But Saliya knows of it so if it does come up I'm sure he'll grab it first :(
fightinscot 02-07-2007, 02:43 AM The more I think about it, the more I am considering getting the H5s. It for sure won't be a DD and he has a '84 633 on sale as well which would be great for the DD. If I could work out a deal for both cars and trade my car back to him then it might work out.
But here is the thing, I am not too worried about the upkeep or parts on the 633, but what about the H5s? Does it use the same e28 parts or what?
Kevin, what kind of cost is it to repair the interior?
And one more thing, what were the total production number for the H5s? Does anyone know?
Wiseguy ON 02-07-2007, 09:09 PM That H5s Isn't cheap, but where are you going to find another?
Upkeep isn't bad, specific Hartge parts are hideously rare and expensive but dont wreck it and you're fine.
PLEASE bring it to 5erfest if you buy it, PLEASE! We need to get these rare cars to 5erfest.

That's what I'm worried about. The parts and rarity, not so much the price is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger. Would specific parts be able to be bought aftermarket from Hartge? I don't know if they fulfilled orders for older cars.

Unless you wreck it, the Hartge-Specific parts don't usually go bad.
Paul LaDue had some front airdams remade a year or two back. He's on the mye28 board.
Everything you'd need for it is out there, sometimes pricey, but it all exists.
Buy the car, you won't regret it.

Dont be worried about the 633, parts are easier to find than you think. E24 chasis is the same exact rolling chasis as the E28. This means anything that works for your e28 (build date 5/82 up through 88), will work for the 6er (same build dates). 6er's are great cars, the only thing hard to get or thatt is expensive are body panels, just because there werent as many 6ers made as 5ers. About 86,000 6ers were made from 76 to 89.

Still curious
jbd5015 02-10-2007, 07:15 PM Hartge is a performance tuning company. They did work for BMW years back much like Alpina did/does, i would think Dinan is the most up to date tuner like Hartge. They take the stock 535i, or whatever car they use, and tastefully and professionaly modify it. Im pretty sure they retain value and could be sent from the dealer (correct me if im wrong) to be modified withough voiding warranty. Or they offered a warranty. Hope that helps explain it.

wjosh 02-10-2007, 08:26 PM 633 or H5S - no question H5S - 90% of the parts you need will work with a normal E28. Internals of Engine and some bolt on body work will not. Pretty much all the rest yes - At least the 1 other one I have seen appeared to be this way.
