Hi,
I have a 2007 328xi and I was trying to program the locking system to chirp the horn when the system is locked.

In the owners manual, page 21 it shows this... but the horn symbol is not listed in the menu.

How do I get this to work?

I don't think they come standard with the siren installed ... it is only pre-wired for the alarm.

You must install the optional alarm, then the horn icon will show in the menu.

+1

No optional alarm = no audible chirp when locking.

Let me guess...it's gonna be $500 plus install right?

Roughly $500-$600 installed. One person who posts here got their dealer to throw it in though. Too late to try that though since you already have the car!

I just ordered for installation on the 20th (wait for the opening in service), and the part itself is $300, 1 hour for the installation. I was quoted $439.43 for the whole thing with the install.
I am wanting my blinking clown nose!!!!!!

Well, I just read some distrubing news concerning the alarm system.....please take a look here:

Apparently the install of the alarm caused other issues....or just a fluke???

Maybe the cable got disconnected or the power supply interrupted in the car or the programmer?

I'm going to save my $$$ and put off getting a alarm system...

Any opinions on the Lo-Jack systems? I heard that you get a great insurance discount through many companys

If you have the BMW Assist, you do not need this. It can "lo-jack" your car....and is enough to get a discount on your insurance. Did for me.

Here's my opinion on the LoJack. It isn't that great...

My father got it for his '97 Z3 roadster as a dealer installed option... As I went to put new rear speakers in it, I found the LoJack device in the trunk under the interior trunk cover on the driver's side. It's just a small grey box with a black wire coming out it grounded to the car, another wire for power, a backup battery and a white antenna.

My bro also had a '03 VW GTI 337 and I found it in the quarter panel on the pax side, same device.

The dealer tried to sell me the lojack over the phone and wouldn't STFU until I came in to pick up the car and rejected the LoJack dealer installed option.

I even told him if he gives me the key to his car to test it...and on a random night, I would take it, drive somewhere, then rip out the lojack and ditch it on the side of the road...and I'd bring the car back after he gives up trying to find it.
But the problem is that you need a police report to activate the LoJack.

When you or the police call LoJack to activate it, they ask for a police report number first before doing anything to locate it...then the police would need to use one of their cruisers with the lojack locating antenna if they have one...

Not every police dept in the US would have lojack locating equipment in their patrol cars.

It is great that you got this with a one hour labor charge, but don't be surprised if it takes them 3 hours in real time. That's what mine took. The clown nose gives a great "don't even think about it" appearance when it's armed. :shifty
