Hey y'all. I have customers that are interested in the PSS9 system. I will also be doing the PSS system with this GB! My distributor is right next door to Bilstein and they'd be happy to accommodate my request. Minimum is 10 orders. All makes and models that Bilstein makes the PSS/PSS9s for are listed below. As people request a kit the prices will be listed below - if you need a kit for any other made/model on the list then post up and I'll get the price. All we need is 10 kits TOTAL for PSS/PSS9 kits so I'll take an order for any car that it's available for - if you know someone who would be down for this then tell them to email me at Jesse@BB-AW.com. I have this GB on two other forums. This is the price for 10+ kits - the best price I can do!

FAQ

Q. What is the difference between PSS kits and PSS9 kits?

A. The PSS and PSS9 systems are virtually the same. The difference is the shock. The "9" in PSS9 refers to the ability for you to adjust the dampening qualities of the shock in 9 different positions (see pictures below of adjustment dials). The PSS kits come with Bilstein Sport shocks. The PSS9 kits come with adjustable valving shocks can be adjusted in dampening from "1" (slightly harder or firmer than Bilstein Sport shocks in the PSS kit), all the way to "9" (30% softer than Sport shocks!).

Q. Why wouldn't I just get a PSS kit?

A. You could! PSS kits are awesome! They come with Bilstein Sport shocks, and are totally ride height adjustable. The difference is that you can adjust the valving on the PSS9 kit to be slightly harder than the PSS kit, but also a LOT softer than the PSS kit. This makes for a coilover system that is perfect for occasional track use, but also is incredible for daily driving because it can be so much more comfortable than regular sport shocks or other coilover systems can be.

For more information on Bilstein PSS/PSS9 systems check them out here: http://www.bilstein.com/autos.php#streetperf

Let me know if you have any questions! Undoubtedly THE best suspension set-up out there for someone how tracks their car often or even occasionally, and by far the best c/o set-up for daily driving. Aside from a full-Race set up, it doesn't get much better than this, especially for the price!!

Update 3/25:

Since we've started this process I had to leave town for a couple weeks, so now that I am back lets get this on track before we get too far into the track season!

Here is the list; we just need 1 more person to make this a go!

Yep, JimLev and Humanoid off of Roadfly have installed them and they sound pretty sweet. I'm just not sure if they'll give me the sportiness I'm looking for. That's where the PSS9's come in :D

Thanks for the help, Im still learning about suspension. Do you know how much more its going to cost and where I could get the extra parts from?

You just have to change the stabilizer links. For the most part it won't effect your anti-roll properties. If you track your car heavily than you would need to consider ball joint wear and make sure you keep on eye on that, but aside from that it should be fine. Here is the stabilizer bar linkage assembly:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/m/o/6.png

The M3 uses the long strut-mounted assembly. The standard E36 (and what you would need to convert to) is the shorter linkage with the swivel bracket on the bottom.

Yes, that is what I indicated in Post #1 - LCAs are Lower Control Arms. :)

You can use a standard E36 kit on an E36 M3, you will just have to change your stabilizer links to connect to your LCAs instead of your strut housings.

Okay let's make a list. If you are interested and SERIOUS (meaning if I say go you will purchase a set within 2 weeks) then put your name down. Now is a great time to take advantage of this deal because everyone will be looking to buy a set in the spring time and they'll be harder to find and more expensive.

I asked jesse the same already.

Turner's site has the parts number for a 95 euro m3. I guess our 95 m3 uses different mounting point or something. Same goes for the 96-99 m.

I'm still waiting on jesse to see the eta on when the us m3 pss9 will be done. :D

Really? Thanks I'll check with Bilstein. For some reason it stills shows under development in their 06 catalog and my distributor said they didn't have a part number for it. It also is not on the US Bilstein website, but of course it could be just not updated. That would be perfect if it is available. The part number on your site shows on the Bilstein.de site as for the 286/321hp M3 (obviously the Euro M3). I'll call Bilstein to make sure the part number is applicable.

Sorry guys, I was wrong. When I looked on the Bilstein site I was looking for the 95 M3 and it wasn't there. It does show that it is available for 96-99 M3, but I don't see why 95 would be any different. The only difference from 95 to 96-99 is the Lower Control Arms have less caster, but that shouldn't effect the suspension kit at all.

PSS9 is available for 95-99 M3. Thanks to you guys for bringing it to my attention.

I see the difference in part number now. One is 567 and the other 576. They looked the same.

The only differences that I know of between the 95 and 96-99 M3's front suspension is the strut hat, the upper spring plate, and also the fact that the 96-99 had the strut tower reinforcement and the 95s didn't. What else was different? Caster was a little more on the 96-99...

There is a dial on the side of the shock that allows you to adjust the valving. 9 positions. Here are some pics of one kit so you can see better detail (not a BMW kit):

so...do these have a warranty?? would it be thru Bilstein??
I will handle any warranty requests, if needed. I've never heard of a Bilstein shock go out on a DD/occasional track car. Keep in mind that while Bilstein does promote that their PSS9 kit is for DD and occasional track-going, use in competition is not covered by their warranty. In fact most suspension manufacturers do not warranty competition shocks...they just make shocks good enough that they don't need to warranty them; make sense? God forbid something happens to me, this is Bilstein's own warranty (all customers will be provided with proof of purchase and I am an authorized Bilstein retailer):

From Bilstein: http://www.bilstein.com/warranty.php?PHPSESSID=275d353b6a52807ade9b7b60afa e3387#details

"ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America warrants its gas pressure shock absorbers against defects in workmanship and materials for as long as you, the original purchaser, own your car.

If at any time after purchase or installation, the shock malfunctions and Bilstein determines it to be defective, we will either replace it or repair it.

There are only a few specific exceptions to this warranty. They include:

original equipment shock absorbers - which are warrantied by the original equipment manufacturer.
improper installation,
racing, driving competition or off-road use,
use on modified or other than Bilstein-recommended vehicles.
Bent or Broken Rods showing abuse or abnormal wear
Bilstein's liability for a defective shock absorber is limited to replacement of shock with a new or reconditioned Bilstein shock absorber. Rubber mounting hardware and labor charges are not covered by the warranty.

Note: Other exclusions may or may not apply in certain states or rare circumstances. Proof of purchase is required to process warranty.

For additional information about our warranty, please contact our Warranty Hotline by phone at 1(800) 370-9522 or email at warranty@bilstein.com."

So basically don't wreck your car or hit a tree and you should be fine. ;)

What's the difference between PSS and PSS9?
The "9" in "PSS9" represents the fact that you can adjust the valving of the shock to make the dampening harder or softer in 9 increments. Look a few posts above and you'll see the dials on the shocks used to adjust the dampening. Both the PSS and PSS9 kits are height adjustable; the PSS9 also has adjustable dampening while the PSS kit does not. :)

For the money the PSS kit is an excellent buy. If you do not plan to do a lot of Road Coarse or Auto-X, the PSS would work very well for you.

Coilovers are by nature height adjustable. :confused

also, would I need to get wheel spacers if i have 18x8.5 et 38 on all four?

Really no way to tell unless you talk to people who have installed coilvers on a car like yours. If you can't get the info, it's always good to have a few on hand when you do the installation and return the ones you don't end up using. To be safe I'd order both 10mm and 15mm. If they turn out to be too much you can always return/resell them. This way you're not stranded until you get the right size. Best to do the reasearch in the appropriate forum for your car first.

yes i think you need spacers in the front....someone correct me if im wrong...10-15mm would be good

I was actually getting ready to ask about spacers with the PSS setup.

If anyone has any additional info that would be nice, but from my searches it seems 15mm spacers are needed for the front.

Can you get a deal on a Bilstein BTS kit for a 328is? Something cheaper than $615 shipped?

Is the bilstein PSS setup the same for the regular non-M E36 against the convertible?
I got a 1997 328i convertible... depending on shipping and stuff to canada, vancouver area you can definately count me in on this group buy.

Three stupid questions:
Do you offer the 318Ti kit?
Does a Z3/M kit exist yet?
And a hybrid to the last two, can you split kits (like an E36M front and a Ti/Z3 rear)? I assume the answer is no, but it would be ideal for me.... I'd be willing to pay more for this if it were even an option (short of buying 2 kits, obviously...)

Thanks, that's what I really wanted to know! To anyone with this setup: how harsh is it? Is this appropriate for daily driving or will it make my kidneys hurt and give me a headache when driving through town? Thanks!
It can be very 'comfortable' actually... that's why it has the dampening settings. Setting 1 will allow your ass to feel every little pebble in the road (as a good hard shock should)...setting 9 will be a lot more forgiving and be more like a sporty OE shock. :)

A vendor is already doing a Bilstein BTS GB. I don't want to get involved with that. Besides the point of this GB is to get people this awesome kit before they are scarce in a couple months.

Does a Z3/M kit exist yet?

No and 99% sure there won't be one. The 318ti kit works. You just need to buy a few more OEM parts. See http://www.digitalsimple.com/TheMCoupeProject/02.04.06%20PSS9s%20Installed/pss9sinstalled.htm

318ti weight is very close to the MZ3. About 100 lb difference more or less. The 318ti kit comes with 450lb springs all around. For street, the fronts will be fine, but you might want something a little stiffer in the rear. You don't need a hybrid kit. The 318 kit is already one.

I've asked the organizer if it is possible to pick spring rates but he's apparently not answering.

Not with the PSS9s. I'm sure there are springs you could use with these C/Os, but I would call Bilstein if I were you to check for sure.

Yes there is a kit for the 318Ti, both PSS and PSS9.

No you cannot swap kits or order partial kits.

For the Z3-M I do not have a part number in either my catalog or online. I will call Bilstein to verify if they have one or not.

No it's a direct swap. Anytime you are upgrading your suspension though if you haven't done a few simple maintenance items like replacing your lower control arm bushings, rear trailing arm bushings, or your rear strut mounts, now is a very good time to do so. You may also want to add the E36 M3 reinforcement plate on the front and the Z3 reinforcement plate on the rear.

Any decent shop should be able to do it in less than 2 hours (probably only an hour or so), so depending on the shop $50-$100. For Vancouver, Canada, add $20 for shipping. Thanks!

Can you pick spring rates with this system? Is this what is different with a system like the GC track/school or TC Kline true match?

Can you pick spring rates with this system? Is this what is different with a system like the GC track/school or TC Kline true match?
Well, the difference is that this system is one of the best multi-purpose systems around. Meaning that if you are using a DD and going to the track occasionally (or even often) this system absolutely rocks. The difference between this and something like a GC system is that GC will pick your spring rates based on your needs for a specific purpose... if you tell them you need a C/O system that you will be DD on, they'll probably choose spring rates pretty close to the PSS9 system because you wouldn't want it too harsh for DD. If you tell them you want the best track set up they'll choose stiffer springs for the track and it won't be as comfortable on the street. The PSS9 system is the best compromise of awesome handling and DD comfort. The progressive rate springs in this system also give you more comfort for DD. I would choose this system over most if you drive your car often on the streets and go to say 10-15 track sessions per year.
