I decided to not mess with the CODE on this radio and just get an aftermarket Kenwood..

Situation is that I dont want to spend $30.00 bucks for a Harness Kit and then another $12.00 for an Antenna Adapter so I decided to figure out which wire is which.. the one inside the dash radio plug has multiple colored wires of which i dont know what is what since I dont have a Repair Manual.

Well I managed to take a digital pic of both the block inside the dash and also one of the block behind the radio.. (Hence I butchered the radio rear to remove this piece)

My questions is if anyone knows a link to the wire schematic and the colored wires. I'm not cheap to have to buy a repair service manual ; its just simply that I am unemployed and can't afford one at $75.00 on ebay

Here are the pics that I photoshopped to display the numerals on both wire blocks the one behind the stock factory radio and the one attached to the harness inside the Dash.

Oh god dude, maybe you shouldnt own a BMW if you cant spend 42 bucks to install it right. How about i mail you an antenna adapter and the harness from my shop for 20 bucks?

no kidding.
I hope you're saving those $42 for all the electrical problems, nikasil block problems, transmission problems that those E32 8cylinders are notorious for...

JPWheelr,

I bought this car three weeks ago and yes I have had some issues with the car already like the tranny slams on ocasion. Electrical problems I have not encountered as of yet, The Nikasil block i was told was an issue with the grade of gasoline or the sulfur content, i am using 93.5 Sunoco.. The car i bought for $2,600.00 and the tranny job is $3,500.00

I just recently became unemployed so I am trying to do some things myself of which the radio could not be unlocked because the number sticker behind it was removed and the dealer cannot unlock it with the VIN#

I could use some help from someone out there in this forum who may know the colored wires and which is which.

Isn't that what the forum is set up for ? People helping out other people.

Camoflash,

You know , I understand the BMW being expensive to maintain but I am trying to do the best that I can with what I have to work with.

I have another BMW which is an '89 325i convertible that is not running at present.

I also have an '86 Porsche 928 Gemballa (Pics below) that I am doing the body work on myself but I can do that a little bit at a time.

The 740 IL I have been using as my daily driver and its not that far that i have to drive since i usually just stay in my neighborhood.

Do you have a pic of the harness and antenna adapter.. I can have my brother Paypal you the money. If you can send me an image pic of the harness and antenna adapter I would very much appreciated.

I checked yoru car today at work and got you the harness, please for the love of god DO NOT CUT THE ORIGINAL HARNESS!! Im willing to send you one free to not do that. however i do not have the antenna adapter in stock. Let me know if you still want it

I figure he already hacked the radio to get the female harness out.

If he is going to solder wires to the OEM female then have at it.

Camo,

I hadnt thought about cutting it because i wasnt getting anywhere trying to figure it out... That would be a crime punishable by death.

Yes, I can always get the Antenna Adapter at a later time since i mostly listen to CD's anyway. Right now I just want to be able to listen to music. Please send me your paypal address so I can send you the funds for the shipping. Does this site allow for PM's ? If you can PM me the paypal addy.

Joey (Camo),

I received it just yesterday. I thought you were shipping it Priority Mail .. it was sent over a week and half ago via 1st Class Mail from California. I am thankful regardless that i finally got it and i will be on my way to listening to some music now.

I still need the antenna adapter.

Do you know a good link for struts, suspension parts, ..My left front strut is bad and is causing the tire to rub up against the strut. I found out that my tranny is leaking fluid, and the motor also leaking oil, I have to also replace the rear struts. My motor has a miss but the mechanic keeps saying that its a vacuum leak... if it were that then why does she run fine after she is warm ?

For just struts go to pelicanparts or shoot me a PM and I can put you in touch with someone for those struts and shocks. If your struts are dead then your thrust bushings and all controls arms arms and associated bushings are either already dead or close to it.

Oil leak is from motor is more than likely the valve cover gaskets. Something you can definitely do yourself. Again PM me for contact or go to pelicanparts.

Tranny leak could be a number of things, front seals, output shaft seal etc etc. Slamming into gear means it is going out. DO NOT CHANGE the fluid as the moment you flush it with brand new fluid it will slip and not return to normal conditions and you will be forced to get a new transmission. I know some spots to get some used trannys but unfortunately no one can guarantee how long those will last.

If your motor is missing its probably the block. I hate to say it but try to find out via your VIN number or get the number off the block to find out if it was changed. I think you have missed out though on BMW fixing it for free. It also had nothing to do with the grade of gasoline, every single block goes bad, it was/is our high sulfur content and our gasoline formulas are far different than that of Europe. It fixes itself after it gets warm because parts expand when they heat up and this eliminates all the ailments temporarily while it is hot... It will continue to get worse and worse to the point that it is undriveable..

Let me know if you need ANY other help. I used to build BMW racecars and know a lot of their problems :)

I may also be getting rid of the problem '94 7 series...
Nikasil block is missing.. runs rough.. check engine light comes on and it goes into limp mode

Tranny is slamming and sometimes it doesnt go anywhere...

Front left tire is rubbing on the strut because strut is bad

Rear Shocks are seeping fluid..

Oil pan maybe is leaking oil...

Tranny is leaking that very expensive fluid.

Some electrical problems...

Someone mentioned that this year 740IL is very problematic... so I may not be keeping it too much longer... I will be in the market for either a 5 series or a '98 740IL

I did, and you reacted very poorly.
The last good E32 was the 1991.5 735i/il I love the 1988 735i 5 speed myself.

Why a 1998 740il? You just love trannies that slam, huh? Those have a valve body problem in the transmissions, if you do find one, find one where that has been addressed.

I have a 1997 740il black/black loaded that I need to get rid of and a pair of 1997/1998 540; if you're looking now.

I would like to see the '97 740IL and actually both,, can you send me pics to: zondervanus@yahoo.com

Its the blue wire or blue with white stripe coming out of the harness. Just connect that to accessory or remote turn on
