Ding ding ding! The previous owner of my 525i was VTbimmer and he paid Sound in Motion to basically make him the most bad ass system for $10k.

They are known for getting really hot, not being vell made and overall piece of shit. I have an xplod amp and I don't like it one bit... And its uglier than hell.

Anyone build custom boxes for small subs in the stock rear deck holes in an E36? The contour of the underside of the deck makes this a bit more work, but otherwise it seems possible. I need my trunk and I need my fold down rear seats.

I think most people that want small subs in a e36 usually go with JL Stealthboxes that house the JL 8IB4's. Thats what I have, pretty happy with them. Looking to replace the JL sub with a DLS OA8 though.

I've been wanting to do the same thing. I think the mounting depth of those are small enough to fit into the rear speaker locations, after making adapters for an 8" of course correct?

Btw, how did the e30 setup you had sound? I originally wanted to make a box that would port out through the rear deck, but i would have needed to cut through the rear deck.

I thought the JL Stealthboxes are not really boxes -- just partial surrounds. I have the fold down seats, so I cannot get a good seal in the trunk for running IB.

I am really happy with my 12 inch sub box from Bavarian Soundwerks. It sounds good with the seats up, but sounds GREAT with the seats down.

Here's a couple of setups I've built:

My e36:

The amp rack is just purely for function, the wires are all zipped tied like every 3":

My friends e46:

Here's one currently in progress for my buddies e36 M3, it's just a quick pshop. I'm starting on the back mold tomorrow afternoon.

I built my enclosure for my Kicker S8L7 from the recommended specs provided by Kicker. I had to adjust the dimensions to fit in my convertible e36 and built my vent outside the box instead of inside. While I was running it outside the box, I thought I may as well run it into the cabin via the huge vents located directly behind my rear seat. My very long PPI amp fit on the other side which pleased me a great deal. I had to assemble and seal the vent after the box was installed which required an EXTRAORDINARY amount of dexterity... and an infinite supply of blood, sweat, and tears.

Sony Xplode FTL.

*sigh* I am going to have disagree with you here. I know... what a big surprise.

Back in the day when I first got my 99 M3 I was strapped for cash but wanted to get some subs and amp and pound my brains out.

So I had a big Best Buy Gift Card and went with that exact 10" woofer(got 2 of them) and the 800W Hexagon amplifier(xplode). I had purchased a bandpass box that fired against each other. I got it all installed and I had my friend kendogg tune it for me(the amplifier)...

Now even he will HATE to admit it... but the things POUNDED and also sounded good. They are not bad since I spent 300 dollars total for the subs, amplifier and the box(used from a friend from school) and for that price it is hard to beat...

Enclosure specs provided by Kicker for my S8L7 although I had to tweak the size to fit under my drop top. I built the vent to go outside the box 14" w/elbow and it finishes at my drivers side rear vent into the cabin. The woofer, of course, fires in through the trunk pass-thru sending all my woofer's efforts into the cabin with me. It sounds GLORIOUS.

The shame I felt when I discovered that the pics I thought I had not posted, did in fact, post. The shame increased when I discovered that I didn't know how to edit/delete the extraneous post. The technology doesn't exist capable of measuring my shame, for it is great.
