View Full Version : Problems with Comfort Access Keyless Entry??
atl1230 01-11-2007, 02:31 AM i'm getting a 328i soon and i was thinking about getting it with the smart key option. Anybody have any problems with their comfort access key? I've heard that sometimes the sensors dont sense the key or something.
Thanks
JNMACE 01-11-2007, 03:15 AM I think it is a nice little toy to have...but absolutely not necessary. Mine has worked every time for an entire 3 days now so I can't complain. I really don't have a problem with tapping the button on the key to unlock the door though so if it ever fails to sense my hand on the door handle I will make it through the day without tears.
I do have to admit, even though the whole "comfort access" and push button ignition is a bit gimmicky to me, I also am finding that it is nice to not have to pull the key out if I don't feel like it. There is potential for their to be some reliability issues with it, I'm sure, but you might as well get it if you are ordering the car. You don't have to use it.
Dwimmerlaik 01-11-2007, 03:30 AM My dad has it on his Cadillac STS, its definitly one of the things I want in my next car (likely a 335). I just find it pretty awesome to be able to keep the key in your pocket the whole time and never have to take it out to get in or turn the car on and what not.
E90Toad 01-11-2007, 10:34 AM Almost 2 weeks with it and am really glad I got it. No problems to speak of, totally worth the $500 imo.
Ruff Rider 01-11-2007, 03:31 PM Best $500 I have spent. I love it. The problem is that you get so used to it when you get in a car without it you forget you need the key to start the car.
dhmilosr 01-18-2007, 06:18 PM I've had it for two weeks now and its incredible. Friends who don't have it regret it when they see it in action. Comfort Access - $500, not having to worry about where your key is during the rain/snow/severe cold - Priceless.
You'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

I really wish that when they add systems like this they learn to do so WITHOUT taking away the the systems that are already reliable. If the Comfort Access or the damned push button ever do fail I would really like the option of sticking in a key and turning the darned ignition...but...I guess I don't have that option.
However, the comfort access, as I have said before, really is a great thing to have. Definitely worth the $500.

If the Comfort Access doesn't work, just stick the FOB in the ignition slot and start the car normally.
pacnd 01-19-2007, 03:06 PM I'm not sure that sticking the Fob into the dash is a viable option. If I'm not mistaken, the CA option comes with an entirely different key.
I have CA and there have been a couple instances where the car has not recognized the key for purposes of locking/unlocking the vehicle. I have never had a problem starting the car. All in all, I'm glad I got it.
I wonder if BMW Assist (push the little button on the overhead panel or call the 1-800 number) can remotely start your car in the event of CA failure???
I think they have the remote start on the Mercedes program but don't recall reading about that in my BMW manual. Does anyone know for sure if they can remotely start your car for you?

I believe that if your key battery dies putting the key into the slot is suppose to allow you to start the car. Pretty sure it says that somewhere in the manual.
TrevorD 01-20-2007, 04:34 PM Comfort access is great. It's rare that it will tell me that it can't detect the key fob, but it does happen occasionally. It's normal, though. My '05 Corvette did it, and the '07 does, too. You won't have a problem with it 99% of the time, but every once in a blue moon the fob will be in the perfect position in my pocket where it can't detect it.
It's well worth the $500 IMO.
White94RX 01-20-2007, 05:01 PM if you have CA, you don't have to use it. It works exactly like a regular key. Push the unlock button, open door, stick key in slot, and start car.

i havent gotten my car yet, but if the key is anything like the mercedes key, then it will start even if the battery is dead.
a few yrs ago, i was carshopping with my sister and the mercedes dealer was telling us how if the battery goes dead in the battery, it'll still work b/c ur car'll just read the code, it's doesnt need the battery for it to work.
