View Full Version : 335i Coupe production anxiety
cemman 01-09-2007, 09:39 PM On December 16, I went to my dealer to negotiate the purchase of a 335i coupe 6mt. Fortunately, I was sick which allowed me to be incredibly dispassionate about the car and I was able to negotiate at least as fair a deal as I could. With coupes in such high demand and 6mt even rarer, I didn't do great, but I'm not embarassed either since I really wanted the car. He had no cars on the lot and all ordered cars were spoken for so I had to order one. The dealer informed me that I would be lucky to get the car by the end of March. In my foggy state, that sounded fine. I have two cars I like and figured it would be easy to wait "a couple of months" to get the car. I got the production code and am told my car is scheduled to start production on Feb 1. I now find that I am reading every forum on the web in anticipation getting the car and have trouble thinking of anything else. How have the others of you who ordered cars passed the time during this agonizing wait?
wrxfool 01-09-2007, 09:47 PM I'm going to Oerder my 335i coupe 6mt, on Thursday and my salesman told me May-June for delivery. It sucks but at least it will nice and warm.
praecurvo 01-09-2007, 09:58 PM lol.
i feel your pain. i'm on all the boards, reading/evaluating everything on this car. and as an avid upgrade Aficianado, it's not doing me much good 'cept for emptying my pockets. perhaps after I get her, things will be more tranquil.
Jhunter 01-09-2007, 10:02 PM You may not have to wait as long as you think. I ordered my 335i coupe (6mt) on 11/30. It arrived at the SC processing center three days ago and my dealer says I should have by the end of the week!
wrxfool 01-09-2007, 10:17 PM That would be pretty sweet. I have 2 days to decide on the colour.
White
Black
Or Montego Blue.
I'm leaning towards the blue.
I will probably decided with a coin toss.
Anyone have a 3 sided coin :) j/k
Snowkone 01-09-2007, 10:30 PM I with go with the Montego Blue. Although I haven't seen one (or any e92 in Dallas), it looks very sharp on the e90 sedans plus it's not the normal black/white you see on other cars (but the BMW metallics are much nicer).
My car took the better 1/2 of 6-8 weeks, but it was worth it! I read as much forums as I could to prepare. Make sure you research things like:
- tint shops (don't go with the dealer, trust me)
- mods people are doing (not engine per se, like changing out the orange refletors, hid/bright white lights for the fog lights, etc - cool mods that don't jack with the engine),
- BMW in general (this is my first BMW and I'm confident to say it's THE BEST car I've ever owned! Had a Pontiac Trans Am WS6 and a Lexus ES300 before - HUGE change).
Gratz my friend! :buttrock
wrxfool 01-09-2007, 11:12 PM I wanted my STi in raly blue , so I think the BMW will be the blue.
I can get full tint for like $160 canadian (probably $120 us)
But i will look into the 3m clear bra, we use sand in Edmonton so that will be a must.
Can't wait

You're doing it. Passing the time here reading and talking to others who either have or are waiting on theirs.
I ordered 12/7 and am expecting delivery around 2/1.

Wouldn't mind comparing info with you, just recently ordered a 335i sedan from Bravaria BMW and awaiting its arrival.
wrxfool 01-10-2007, 12:06 AM Hey, for the car I'm ordering the coupe, but if you want some info on the tints and other things I could probably hook you up with some contacts. I know just shooting the shat with the salesman, he said it's hard to get a good discount on them. He said getting something thrown in for free is easier thne taking off the price. i thought of getting the rim and tires protection and the 3m included at no cost. Did you get the price reduced on yours?
cemman 01-10-2007, 12:12 AM I got a little off, and then I got a little more off because the dealer made a mistake when pricing out the deal, but gave it to me anyway. I think tint looks pretty good, but I lived in Arizona for 20 yrs before moving to PA, so for know, I'm a little sick of tint. It's kind of nice to see better at night. This will be my third BMW and I haven't been disappointed yet.
rifle 01-10-2007, 09:21 PM I ordered my coupe in mid Dec 06. It is supposed to arrive SC 1/22/07. I too have been anticipating the arrival of the car. I have been occupying my time with getting more car stuff from Griots. I know everyone has different opinions on waxes etc. but I have had good results with Griots products.
cdotger 01-10-2007, 10:43 PM I ordered on 11/30 and my boat (The Patriot) is 3 days late... Will be docking in NYC tomorrow 1/11.. .So should not be much longer...
-Carl
cemman 01-10-2007, 11:21 PM It's amazing how much easier and faster it is to get a sedan than a coupe. Add to that, I appear to be one of six people in the known universe to have ordered a green one with 6mt. For all you green haters, I've seen the color in person, and it may not be for everyone, but I really liked it.

Did you get the name of the boat from your Dealer, BMWNA, or the OC website? I tried BMWNA (the 800#) and my Dealer and both told me the boat name is to be found on OC. My car is now in "Awaiting Transport" so I assume the boat information won't be available on OC (if at all) until it moves to "En Route".

The OC never showed the ship's name for mine. I was sitting in my sales guy's office when he went on line and pulled it up for me. Their web access gives much more detail than OC which was next to useless. Great idea, poor execution. :shifty

I saw one at my dealer prepared for delivery. the color was nice, especially with the saddle interior. The darker color softens the lines of the car a bit, though. I never make comments on color--whom ever makes the payment should get that decision free and clear--there is an as$ for every seat.
You look to be relatively close to me, which dealer did you use? are you happy with the service you have had with your previous cars?
cemman 01-11-2007, 02:17 PM I bought from Princeton BMW. I moved here from Arizona in 2004 and had a 2001 740i sport at the time. The first time I went to Princeton for service, I had a pretty bad experience and wound up going to Thompson in Doylestown who really took care of me. At the time Princeton would not give me a loaner because they told me that they didn't provide loaners to people who didn't buy there car there. The problem is that they are a lot closer, so I gave them another shot. The ca I dealt with was a real good guy and I felt like I got a reasonable (not great) deal. I'm not sure where I'll have serviced when I get it, but I'll deal with that later. Incidentally, I ordered the cream beige interior.
MrWorf 01-11-2007, 02:26 PM Atleast you guys have gotten a delivery date. I haven't even gotten a slot or an expected delivery date (and I ordered it at the end of November 2006) :cry
moncoupe328 01-11-2007, 06:39 PM I ordered my 328 coupe nov.20,2006 ,but its still on the way to VPC.
joeguy13 01-12-2007, 12:15 AM just ordered mine today...:redspot ...white with red and black leather like in the m3s.....i was wondering if anyone knew of any upgrades engine wise for these cars....i.e. ecu bigger turbos exhaust bov thanks....also anyone know what the average insurance on the coupes are going for
cdotger 01-12-2007, 12:19 AM My Ship docked today (Patriot) in NYC today ..... My car should now be in the US... :) Should be about a week now

Do a search for XEDE.
As for insurance, why don't you call your insurance company and get a real quote instead of having people here guess what your insurance rate might be?
joeguy13 01-12-2007, 12:31 AM good point....i guess with my excitment im not thinkin straight thanks
theroyalwe 01-12-2007, 12:39 AM coming from a MINI point of view, we all go through this... I think I was far more into the car itself after receiving it than I would have just picking it up off a lot. your car will be worth it... and you'll think back on the waiting with fondness.
anyway once you find out what your ship name is you can actually track it's journey as it goes across the sea depending on what shipping line it is. BMW and MINI use the same ones... so I can only say hope you get willaneus williamson (sp) once you know your VIN you can actually search for the ship info and track the whole thing.
ajm0623 01-12-2007, 08:06 AM anticipation is 3/4 of anything in life. think about it.
wrxfool 01-12-2007, 09:37 AM Well I ordered mine last night. Late April, early May.
Montego Blue/6mt on black Dakota
Sport
Premium
rim/ tire protection
and they threw in the tinted windows and complete front end 3m clear bra protection
I can't wait now I just have to sell the STi.
Sea2Ski 01-12-2007, 09:46 AM wow... the salesman must have seen me coming from miles away.... I got a freeking cargo liner ($70) for my sedan and that was it....
Graphite, 6mt (first MT ever!), cold, navi.
Will be getting the rim/tire.
Want the clear bra.

I felt lucky getting the alarm system thrown on on my 335i Coupe.
Clear bras:boobies, now that's a great invention!
theroyalwe 01-12-2007, 04:47 PM yeah and a clear bra is a great throw-in because it doesn't cost the dealer much besides the labor (which they're paying anyway), but it would cost you an arm and a leg to have done... usually to the tune of $500-600.
code33 01-12-2007, 05:00 PM Oh no....and here I'm waiting for the 335i VERT......I probably won't get mine until December, great time for a vert.
wrxfool 01-12-2007, 06:21 PM It's great to see so far everyone is friendly on this forum. NASIOC was pretty good for that also. Some people had some anger management issues but I guess that everywhere. Glad to be a part of it. Now I just have to figure out how to be able to post icons, pics,etc...
SDCosmosM3 01-12-2007, 10:16 PM Ordered mine September 17th and took delivery Dec 20th. It was truly a long hard wait. I kept visiting the dealerships just to test drive them....it didn't help that my friends would ask about it each time I would see them whether I'd gotten it yet.

YOU HAVE IT EASY.............. I ordered my E90 330i Feb 14, 2005.... Delivered to me May 15, 2005. Had to wait for customs until JULY16, 2005. (military overseas)
Can you imagine going to a chain link fence and seeing you baby for 2 MONTHS and being able to do nothing.....(parked outside!!) I envy you NOT!. But I do love the 335i so HAVE fun with it and be careful:buttrock

Me too baby.... am trading one of the first E90 330i's to hit the planet for the 335 vert.
pearbmw325is 01-13-2007, 03:24 AM i am in germany right now picking up my 335i and it worked great intill we hit the 250 mile mark and the car went to shit. it locked it self into 3rd gear so now when i am going 80 it rev at 3000 and it will not change up a gear. before it did this i would be going 120 at 3ooo
335iyanksfan 01-16-2007, 02:40 AM I jsut ordered my 335i on 1/10. My dealer said that he got it on a priority 1. The production date is 1/22, which means I will get it by the end of Feb.(I hope)

Minor threadjack:
I saw my first E92 in Dallas two weeks ago at a gas station on the NW corner of Central Expressway and Knox. It was 6:30 a.m., and the car was gray and an auto. Haven't seen another since. Been wanting to drive any 335i manual, and since they've been out neither Dallas dealership has had one available to drive.

Interesting, I thought all the dealers got a 335i Coupe as a tester, meaning they aren't allowed to sell it at least at the present time. I know the two here did. The tester I drove was a space gray 6MT with coral red and grey poplar.
AlexMM 01-16-2007, 06:45 PM I ordered my 335i on 5th of January, delivery date end of march. Anxiety roxx, i think of it every single day and i can't even try to imagine how nice it would feel like to sit in it and finally take it for a spin :)

From what I can tell, all of the dealer demos were this combination.

Hello
Ordered mine 01-13-07 salesman advised mid april.. Not so bad with all the grit and rocks on the roads here. I ordered mine at Edmonton BMW, I,m heading back tomorrow to see if I can firm up the same deal you got.
Cheers
335i Space Gy, Coral Red, 6mt, nav, sport, prem, ca, can't wait.
wrxfool 01-23-2007, 01:28 AM ^^^ Right on, I actually went saturday and changed from montego blue/black dakota > Alpine wite /w coral red dakota and same options. I hope your salesman is right and it is mid april, that would be pretty sweet. I agree with the roads here, were better off getting it in this time frame.. Maybe we will meet if we pick them up the same day..MMMMM 335i (drool, drool)
Take care

Excellent I hope we get them the same day!!. Did you already choose your tint package? I was shown 4 degrees of tinting and am having a hard time determining which would be the best.. In any event hopefully will see you around the dealership.
wrxfool 01-23-2007, 09:39 AM Yeah I chose limo for the rear windows and one un for the front (17%) if I'm not mistaken. It is a bit dark but I've done 4 cars like this.

Congrats on the cars, also ordered the alpine white but with the black dakota since the sedans don't get the coral red. There was a guy picking up his white/coral red 335i coupe when I ordered my car, it looked awesome.
wrxfool 01-24-2007, 12:39 AM ^^^ I think that guy is military cause I saw one on the base today, pretty sweet.. :eyecrazy my eyes hurt:)
wrxfool 02-01-2007, 09:18 PM So I got some bad news today. I called my salesman to see if there was any info on the car (production #) and he asked me if I was sitting down. Instead of April delivery it will be June. :mad Originally I was debating between montego/ black, White/ red and black /red interior. So I told him to check out all of Canada to find me one, so he looked and I'm getting a black/ red coral, premium, sport and 19" wheels. The best part is that it is already on the boat and will be here end of feb:redspot . The funny thing is that I've always wanted a black car and never got one (cleaning, rock chips, scratches really show). So now I finally got my black car and 2-3 mths sooner. Now I just have to get a winter set up.
Sweet

Hmmmm, how is it that your car would make it into production before mine? I ordered in November 2006. They are telling me mid-March for delivery, has not started production yet. From what I understand the delaer here in my area is one of the largest in the US for sales.

there are a few things at play to determine the time between placing an order and getting a car. most likely your delay is because the dealer didn't have an allotment available for your car right when you ordered. Each dealer only gets so many cars a month allotted for each model and if they were already accounted for you would have to wait until an open spot for the order to be put in. you could probably find another dealer with an earlier allotment open if you called around.

Mine must be on the same boat, its arriving the same time. Did you get the sapphire or jet black?

cemman 03-29-2007, 01:57 PM I am scheduled to pick up my Deep Green 335i coupe today at 5:00 p.m. It was ordered on December 16. The wait has almost killed me. I'll post pics shortly.

Yay! Pictures! :)
As for my self, order november 21, expected delivery middle of may... The wait is defintly going to kill me :eyecrazy
But until then, bring on the pictures! :D
Vikingus 03-29-2007, 02:10 PM omg, after reading few of you my jaw and hands dropped on the floor. I ordered mine on March 17th and am promised for June delivery, I called my dealer and he told me 90 days wait so we'll see how it goes. He sounded terrified that I might cancel my order because of the wait.
wrxfool 03-29-2007, 06:31 PM If you ever think of cancelling the order, Don't it's well worth the wait.:)
cemman 03-29-2007, 09:26 PM I'm up to 26 miles so far. Not sure what all this hoopla about over heating is. Three observations on my drive home. 1.) The ride with the sports package is not even a little bit harsh. 2.) The green is better looking than I remember. 3.) Holy sh#* this thing is fast.
AEarlM 03-29-2007, 09:50 PM Don't lie just because it is BMW! You made a terrible mistake.... we KNOW your car melted down on the drive home. You should have bought an Audi, Acura, or Infiniti. Too bad.
steverodu2 03-30-2007, 01:10 PM Ha! You think you have it bad, I ordered mine in November and I'm taking delivery o/a 17 April! I set a date further off to ensure I could sell my '02 Z28 without pressure. It was gone in two weeks, so now I'm stuck waiting for my car. As for the overheating, give me a break. No one I know has heard of this problem and they're flying out of the dealership faster than they can keep up. As for BMW running out of engines, if you have your order in, I believe you're safe, new orders might have to wait longer. BTW, mine is red, which you don't see that often, but I couldn't stand a shade of grey since it seems every other car over here in Germany is grey. Green is different, which can be a good thing.
fatlazybloke 03-30-2007, 01:36 PM I ordered mine at the beginning of October, and picked it up on November 8th. Can't understand the wait, are sales booming? I must say I haven't seen any other 335i coupes (nor saloons) on the roads at all. Have seen a diesel, and a couple of smaller petrol-engined ones, though.
It is ridiculously and relentlessly fast. Superb car.
Revlis 03-30-2007, 02:40 PM Picked up my 335i Coupe on Wednesday afternoon Evening. Had a freaking Blast.
I was camping out waiting for the Monty blue over Brown. Well a couple of weeks ago my Salesperson called and said a customers Built and in transit 335 was canceled by the customer, I had first dibs.
Well I wasn't too crazy about the white over Coral Until I saw it. The cars are identically equipped accept for heated seats. Otherwise, as soon as I saw, I got all week kneed and giddy... and said "Yeah, Lets do it!"
Had a great time at the Dealership, truly a fun time. Manager was excellent through the negotiations, (Keep in mind I don't nickle and dime) and everything went perfect. Great Time!
I feel for ya folks though, the Month or so I was camping was TOO MUCH... Cannot imagine waiting for the duration, but what a great wait.
drjordan 04-05-2007, 07:31 PM ordered a montego blue 335 coupe on march 8, still "on order" with "no scheduled production date yet".......the wait is ridiculous!!!
ni66ale 04-08-2007, 02:17 AM hey.. i was wondering when you get the production number how long does it take for the car to arrive to the dealer? thanks
drjordan 04-08-2007, 12:44 PM you should get the production number within a couple days from the dealer once the order is accepted (status code 111), and once your car is scheduled for production (typically around one month later depending on the dealership's open slots that month), the status code changes to 112. From there, usually an additional 4 to 6 weeks (it only takes bmw approx 3 days to make the car, i think) to get your car depending on if you live in the east or west coast....
sleeeper 04-09-2007, 08:01 AM I understand it takes them a week to build the car.
daddyO 04-09-2007, 10:06 AM Ordered mine (335 coupe) on March 26, already built and awaiting transportion. Someone over there loves me.
