Hi i have a 318i saloon its a 1992 e36 m40 engine. the problem im having is that the car rotates but wont start! ive changed the distributor and leads and the relay and checked the fuses. there is plenty of fuel in the tank also. i have noticed that the fuel pump isnt priming or at least i cant hear it priming (if anybody knows if i should hear it priming please say). ive stripped the passenger side interior out and cant see any broken wires.so ive had an electrical tester on the fuel pump wires and the reading is seriously low compared to the fuel pump sender reading (wires right next to each other so thought id just check to compare). ive hooked a wire from the battery straight to the fuel pump and i could hear the pump whirring but i think the battery was a bit low so it sounded very weak unless i was using the wrong type of wire.i know the fuel pump is ok as i have tested it on a friends car. the car has an immobiliser but i dont know if it is wired to the fuel pump and dont know how to find out? could the boot loom wiring cause the fuel pump to not work as somebody has mentioned it may do. any help graetly appreciated thanks dave

did you check your spark plugs? your coils? take them out and clean them, my other guess would be the fuel relay, make sure its working, also try fuses as well..test them good, also test the injectors, make sure they are not clogged, but the way it sounds, if the engine turns sound slike no spark is going or no fuel, either one....or both ( very rare ) anyways, hope that helps
