I'm installing hella's on the truck, do I need a switch to pass inspection? I was just going to wire them on all the time my head lights were on.

the law in jersey is that the fog lights can only come on with at least the parking lights and must turn off when the high beams are switched on. like the factory setting on all cars. basically a 2 relay setup one that only allows power when the parking lights are on and one the interupts the power when the high beam is turned on.

although i have never heard of them truely enforcing these rules all that much.

Pull the fuse before the inspection. I don't believe its a law to have working fog lights.

Actually I thought if they were on there they had to work, no? I remember flunking inspection on my 82 528e in like, 92 I think BC the aftermarket 3rd brake light didnt work (Was a pre-86 so it wasn't required to have one). I ripped it out, then I passed.

Most fog light kits come with wires, switch, relay, etc.

What about all them good ol' boys with the lights with KC covers on them. I don't think they check if those work.

those are not considered fog lights. those are off road/spotting lights.

I can tell you fog lights are NOT checked at NJ inspection stations. I went to the most ANAL inspection station I have ever been to (Flemington) in my M Roadster and they did not check my fogs. What they DID fail me for was the clear corners on my bumper. Not because they were clear but because they did not have a DOT stamp on them (cheap ebay corner). I know they were looking to fail me for something but that took the cake!:mad

They don't if they have covers on em. I once got the old 528e past inspection by putting one of those stupid old black plastic covers on a smashed fog light.. remember the ugly ones that said "BOSCH" on em in big white letters?
