Hey all,

Problem: Did a full coolant system job and used old gasket cement which sh*t the bed and didnt work, leaking all around the thermostat housing onto the fan and baiscally coating the belt and accessory components. Now the thing is squeaking away and driving me mad. Best way to fix the mess? Is spraying the bay with degreaser/soap and then pressure washing the belt carefully a viable solution? How'd you fix this if it happened to you... THANKS in advance...

shouldn't need to powerwash the belts, did you try just pouring some water over them??

yea first fix all the leaks. Then just take some water and pour over the entire front of the engine. then start the car, let it squeal and bitch for a while and then it should go away.

or you can just remove the belt and clean it in the sink/get a new belt it may be glazed from all that sliping its been doing, beleve it or not, I spray wd-40 on belts that squeek on shitty cars I dont care about, I have even used wheel bearing grease, and it worked. I am not recomending this, but thats what I have done.

haha! thanks, I have some interesting stories imo but nothing too extrodinary its all a gain of experience and knowlage, the more things you destroy i.e motors, cars the more you know how to avoid it. I'm still young and have more to "learn" but yea I like to try and figure out short cuts or do things the "dangerous way" I usually dont read 1 of the 3 manuals I have on my car untill I get stuck on somthing. wich is bad, you should know what you are doing before you do it.

for instance, to remove the rtab's. insted of taking the entire trailing arm off and pressing it out I just unbolted & tied the traling arm down with some rope so it would hang below the side skirt to a 100 lb dumbell that I kinda "borrowed" from the store(yea they actually make those, what kinda freek could curl that!) then I torched out the metal sleve from the bushing by heating up the metal and sliding it out of the melted rubber, I then lubed up the wood blade on my sawzaw and cut thru that shit. I switched blades to a metal one and cut through the outer metal part of the bushing and it came out easy.

that is probably one of my favorite "short cuts" I have taken. it took me a while to figure out my plan of attack(lubing up the blade was a big help) witch was probaly more involved that just unbolting it and doing it right, but it was way more fun. I know I am not an inovator becasue I when I told my instructor what I did (I was in automotive school at the time) he was like "been there done that". somthing like that is alot tricker to too and there is more risk involved like slaming the saw into your car, using a torch 3 inches away from your full gas tank(I put a wet rag on it....for safty),cutting the control arm on accedent, or what ever else could happen and wow I am in telling a story/rambling wont shut up mode right now and have been typing for a long time about some totally diffrent subject on this guys thread about I forget what so I am going to stop.
