I installed UUC Black tranny mounts a couple days ago on my car. I'm not sure if it was all in my head, but I swear it made the shifting much crisper.

Today, I installed delrin carrier bushings in the shift mechanism. Now it feels worse. I feel like there is a little more play in the shifter while in neutral.

1) I just remembered that I have an MZ3 shifter, but don't know anything about whether the long rod (carrier?) that connects to the shifter is from a Z car or not. That being said, I forgot about this, and put in M3 delrin bushings. Does that matter?

2) In order to install those bushings, I had to tug laterally on the rod (tug it to the left). Is there another bushing at the opposite end of the rod that I may have damaged by tugging it left, instead of just up and down?

3) Is it ever really possible to get ALL of the play out of these shifters? Like I said, I really felt like the shifting was super crisp yesterday before I installed these. Is it all in my head, or could I have made things worse?

When I mean that it feels sloppy, going into gears is no problem. It's notchy and fine. It's just the play in neutral I'm concerned about.

OK, after reading the understeer site, it looks like the M3 and Z3 bushings are the same.

But I guess I may need a new pivot joint for the carrier?

Get a DSSR. End of discussion.

There is a 'bushing' at the front end as well, and it is the leading cause of shifter 'slop'.

Number 12. Cost: @ $15-20 (retail)
