I took out the battery holder to make a hold down for a non OEM battery. When I put it back together I noticed that there is about a half inch of space between the bottom of the washer and the top of the damper. (see arrow in photo). Is this normal? Am I missing something. I looked at car trunks at dealer's used lot, but all they had were E46s and I guess they changed the design. Totally different setup.

Is that whole but cilindrical thing the damper? Becuase I noticed this in my car and had no clue what is was for?

I now see on realoem the whole tray is claled the absorber, so what is that cilindrical part for at the back?

I think it's supposed to act like a shock absorber for vertical movement of the entire tray. That could be the reason for the half inch gap.

i did see that. your PM irritated me - i thought it was pushy, plus i was already irritated about something else, so i apologize for taking out on you, my reaction to something else. :)

didnt get out to the car though today. :(
