For you guys that offered your condolences and prayers- I thank you.

For those that don't know, I had to put my golden retriever, my best friend for 15 years, down this morning.

He was in pain due to an enlarged heart which caused his lungs to be at 30% capacity, he was always panting, he was deaf, and near blind.

I sat on the table with buddy in a three piece suit this morning, his head in my lap as the IV started. He was drooling on me and wagged his tail a little- I think he was saying goodbye- his breathing began to slow and his heart stopped beating.

Buddy- I will miss you. You were my best friend.

Wow.

That's horrible. I just pictured one of my great danes and it made me very sad. As a certified dog nut, I feel for you, Chandler.

Sorry to hear that. My dog is 12 now and everytime he slows down I get sad. Sounds like he was a good friend.

:bluecryin That is so sad. Sorry Chandler, but at least he's not suffering anymore, right?

I appreciate the offer- I have to attend a dinner with the extended family (ie, a snooty bunch of euro-trash wanna be's) I swear if my brother in law says anything, I will lose it and be thrown out of Pricci.

raincheck it?

Deal.

I hate Pricci. There is nothing worse than pretentious Italian food...

Dang, so sorry about you having to go through this. Unfortunately, we all have to go through it. I now have marine fishies because I don't want to lose another dog or cat. That shit tore me up. Keep your head up, I recommend a 6 pack of Heineken. And go adopt/rescue another doggie!! There are some great Golden Retriever rescues around!

I was trying to avoid this because we had 2 golden's that we had to put down a few years ago.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Sorry about your loss. An unfortunate path to take but he will be in a better place with no pain. He is there with my puppy (they always remain puppies :) ) right now.

I'll let my dog come over and poop on your lawn. J/K Hope I made you smile though. I just did the same for one of my dogs. She was 16 and it was just the right thing to do. We kept her around for a couple of months pretending that she'd improve, but It finally took me to point out that we were just being selfish while she was actually suffering. Dang I miss her. But it's a cycle of life. Somewhere out there, there's a puppy lookin for a home.

My heart goes out to you. I had to put down a 16 year old black lab a while back. Man that was rough.

We currently have three dogs so I guess that makes us dog nuts. Four or so years ago, maybe five, we had to put a nine year old male Weim to sleep and it was absolutely the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Your description of the scene hits close to home. I'm sorry.

Sorry for your loss. Something like that is never easy to do. May Buddy rest in peace.

Ditto to that. I've got three dogs, the oldest being 4 years and I can't imagine when that day might come...
