There are more versions on the way. We will get those, not the current.

Well that sucks. How much difference could there possibly be between the 3 series and the 1 series? I like the sporty little hatchback.

That is good news. With the 3-series growing big, we need the 1-series to fill its shoes on where the 3-series was before.

Just curious...what would be the difference between the station wagon and the hatchback anyways? Is hatchback only 2 door vs. wagon's 4?

im excited for the 1 series! BMWs cars are getting VERY expensive...they need something to fill in the $20K range since the 3 series starts in the 30s

I dont know why it is not coming to the US in the hatchback version. I did get the letter from BMW saying that is will only be a coupe and convertible in the beginning of 2008. They need the little hatchback. What are they thinking?

What letter did you get?? What else did the letter say?Probably because hatchbacks just don't sell well here. Look at the GTI it's Automobile Mag's car of the year but it still didn't sell well.

they are thinking 318ti..mercedes c230 hatch *but its still on the market I believe*...w the ti not selling as well as Bmw had hoped I think that scared them off a lil bit of hatches in the usa market, but the Audi A3 is selling well as a 5 door but Audi doesn't want to import the 3dr as they will see it competing agaisnt the Golf GtI which is essentially the A3 w a Vw badge

3 series is what the 5 series used to be, so 1 series will be what the 3 series used to be? :icon15 course im comparing to '80s cars and that was a long time ago.

Hatches don't sell? How about BMW's mini?

Maybe that's why they aren't bringing the 1 hatch here.

You want to know what doesn't sell well here? Tourings.
The ti did better than the wagons. So that whole not selling well is just marketing BS.

From Phil Marx of Roundel
Some facts might help put these arguments in perspective. For calendar year 2005, BMW NA sold 3,660 "sport wagons," including both new and old 3 Series, 5 Series, and all-wheel-drive versions of these models, making total wagon sales less than 2% of total BMW car sales of 197,833. By comparison, BMW NA sold 7,238 318ti Compacts in 1996---nearly 7% of 105,761 total sales. 318ti sales slipped to less than 4,000 in 1998, the last full year of sales for this model, but still accounted for 3% of total U.S. BMW car sales. How do you measure success?

Wow, interesting numbers there. It's about time we see the 1 series, but damn... no hatch for the US again? Blasphemy.

AWD in a mini is pointless, unless for like track or rally. Around town their balance is so good its almost like AWD. BTW, mini's are amazing i test drove an S the other day:redspot !!

Way to go! Maybe you can even convince them that because of all the added safety features the 130i is a much safer car than the 120i....
