View Full Version : Jan 19th Tucson Meet Check in

This is the official meet thread for January the 19th. I would like to know who will be there and who will most likely be there. We are going to meet at the Old Main Fountain on the U of A Campus between 10 and 10:30 am. If you need directions to the fountain here they are per ///Matador.

To get to the fountain at the U of A, drive down I10 from PHX, untill you get to the Speedway Blvd Exit #257, there is also a U of A sign there. Exit and make a left onto Speedway. Drive approximately 1.5 to 2 miles to Park Ave. Make a right at the light onto Park Ave. There is a Jack-in-the-box on the corner. Drive approximately .2 - .3 miles, and make a left onto University Blvd, at the main U of A gate, there is a four way stop here. Drive in, and we will line up there.

Many have voiced their opinions on keeping this meet strictly to BMW's but in all fairness we should vote on this matter. So, post if you will be at the meet along with a vote as to allow domestics and imports to tag along with the majority of the vote as the final decision. Please do not take offense to this because no matter the decision we are all going to have fun.

Peace - Gianni

I'll be there. Although, since the phoenix guys are all supposed to leave at 9:30, you may want to move back the meeting time at the fountain to say maybe 11:00. Triple digits is inevitable, however not all of us will make it in 55 minutes.

As for the vote on domestics and non-bimmers I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't get out of hand. As long as it's people who are friends and are consistent with being around the group I don't see a problem. However, a random guy who wants to tag along or just someone else to invite, that doesn't have my vote. It seems though that only a few non-bimmers may actually come. The number I assume are coming is fine with me and my vote is it stays at that, which I think is 4. (Mustang, Acura x 2, Transam)

What time are we meeting at mills? I am going for sure, assuming I am back from Seattle in time (driving back).
As for non-bmw's, im ok with it, but I agree that it should be limited to the 4 listed above.
Although this rule shouldnt apply to me in the case that I dont have my car and need to drive a replacement :D

I dont know if we are going to be able to make it to tucson by 10, that is a little early.

By the way...are we for sure doing Bisbee???

There is a mexican place to eat there that my sister and her roomate go to ALL the time. I think this would be best because its new and we've never done it before.....but whatever the group decides...I'M DOWN.

P.S. = Pat, do you wanna meet me somewhere before the Mills meet and roll in my car? I will most likely be taking the E36 'vert....but its still fun. Hit me up on my cell and let me know!

I would also recommend that the meet be moved back to 11am. This way we have plenty of time to leave AZ Mills. Meeting time should be 9:30am @ AZ Mills (Krispy Kreme). We should leave shortly after 9:30am...so don't be late.

We will leave at 11:00 sharp from the U of A, so plan on getting there at 10:30 or so.

Wow Funny how thing chang as soon as more people decide to show up. I have been to all but one meet in Tucson. No one has ever had any issues with me or my car. Its not loike I am just a troll that has suddenly risen out of the wood work to hang out with you guys. I mean really I have even spent a night under one of you boys cars putting exhaust on, and I spent a nother night helping one of my best friends put a chip in his 325is, and I will be helping him do his intake also. Also if this was any normal Tucson meet most of you guys wouldn't even show up and those that would would just be happy that someone with a decient car even showed up. Come on honestly I am more involved in this club then most the Tucson BMW owners. But Whatever its your guys meet. Vot on it and let me know because if I am not welcome at this meet I will nolonger go to any meets reguardless of where and when. So vote and let me know.

Oh yeah one more thing...

Really? Huh funny you really think that I am going to have trouble keeping up with you? You have got to be kidding. Your chiped or what ever you have done to it M3 wont be able to hanby with a 12 year old V6 Trans Am but whatever. Oh yeah I do race in a stright line. So when it comes to the curves I will be so far ahead that I can take it easy.

EDIT: I retract the personal attack sorry man. Its just the brown stuff that comes out of my mouth somethimes.

You need to take it easy. If you are trying to win people for your cause of including you for the meet, talking trash is not going to help your situation. No one here has personally attacked you OR your car so please take a deep breath. :)

I understand that my car was not directly attacked but I hate when any body begins to place their car over anyone else's. And it seems like BMW owners are real cool untill you beging to compare their "Utlimate Driving Machine" to a "Lesser" Domestic. Well whatever I took the day off to cruise with some of my friends. I have more then proved my self worthy of you little club.

Hunter -
I don't know where your coming from, but you need to take a second and look at the big picture. This little car club isn't the only thing that we have going in our lives. So, if people couldn't make it to the small meets, then thats understandable. I know that Keith has a lot on his plate right now, and doesn't always have the time to get out to the meets. Your post toward him was way harsh and not called for. :nono

First off! Cool it guys, this whole thing is starting to become childish. Lets start over, take a deep breath (that includes everyone whether it be bimmer or domestic), count to ten, think about our cars, (oh damn I just came :boink ), and think about how we're being stupid and starting to argue in an internet forum. I mean, how sad can we get?

Well quite frankly I don't understand why this is such a big deal. I would understand if it was an import car show, or something strictly bimmer related, but even though we're based out of a bimmer forum, for the most part it's just friends getting together to go driving. Granted he won't quite match up with the train, but he'll either be leading us (god knows he will if he's pushing 500 hp) or he'll be behind us, really one or the other. To me, he's a friend of a friend. Meaning what's our relationship? Nothing. He is a car fanatic though. And I think he's more than "worthy" to roll with us. I think even Dado's DTM crew rolls with a Camaro SS. And as it's looking he will be the only non-bimmer anyway, except for maybe one Acura. It's not like he just randomly shows up or invited himself.

Bottomline: He's a friend and enjoys his car, just like us. So to him it is an ultimate driving machine. He just can't advertise with that line. :mdrbig

If it was a strictly bimmer show, I'd say no. However, one domestic is not going to kill us. Well maybe on the drag strip, but not in the grand scheme of things :b_blue: . Now if this starts to get out of hand, I mean with too many domestics, as in more than one or two... I'd hate to regulate. I mean, who crazy enough to want a piece of the ragin' AzN. Just my $0.02! C ya guys on the 19th. :boink

ALright guys. I have seen Hunter at every event. He is a good guy. I vote he deserves to hang with us. He has an official pace car trans am. He can lead the pack like they do in the real races. I don't want this club to turn into a rice or domestic club but I dont think one domestic will hurt. I think Hunter is a good guy if he wasnt then I would say no. But since he has been to every event he deserves to go.

I understand that this is becoming "childish" but in this case I have to voice my opinion, god knows everyone else is and stand up for my longtime buddy keith. Pat hit it square on the head, keith has more on his plate than alot of us on this board. Who gives a rats ass if he or others couldnt make it to a meet. Damnit, I had to finish up applications to med school during the last meet which I think is a little more important that attending. Just because some attended while others didnt does not call for someone being more worthy of being at the upcoming meet.
Secondly, Hunter you talk about BMW this, BMW that and BMW owners are cool until... It sounds like you are talking alot of yang about people you may hang with in a few weeks. This may be a "little car club" to you but if you are goin to talk all that yang dont even bother showing up. Damnit, after this who wants to go. Have fun w/out the Bull. Later

haha ok well im going to the meet. if people are going to take what others say on a message board to heart and get all butt-hurt fine, it really doesnt matter to me. I am going to go, i'm going to have a good time whether it is 20 bmw's and a domestic or 20 domestic's and a bmw. I am going to hang out and have fun. that's why im going. all you people who are getting so steamed up need to take a step back and turn off the monitor for a bit. What are you even arguing about? The fact you didnt attend meets? who cares? if you are looking for some type of drama for some reason or have something to prove then please do us all a favor and dont go to the meet. I dont want you ruining my good time. So 'save the drama for your mama' ! To those who are still going, I will see you at U of A and I'm looking forward to a kick ass time!

If you reread my post you would have noticed that I retracted my personal attack. I always do this when I get pissed off. I post something all crazy and then I go back and look at it and say to myself why did I get all butt-hurt over this? I apoligize and had my post not been quoted I would have erased it. I mean no offence I was just a little upset that people were making dicisions on whether or not I would be able to hang out with you guys all over the type of car I drive. I just thought that was bull. I am also part of AZLS1.com and they're web site is based around F-bodys but there are many other cars that are welcome to hang out and chill with us, they just wont make it in to the pictures. Well thats what I assumed was up here but it seems that some of you don't want that. I guess I have been around AZStreetracing too long it has made me lash out right away at any one who is showing disrespect to me or my car. Again sorry for causing such a problem and maybe I wil see you all on the 19th. Thanks to all the people who can vouch for me being a decient guy.

Just a piece of advice, but I don't think it is a very good practice to post a very rude post when you are angry, but come back and change it later. It doesn't make people happy, and it really doesn't help your standings. Thanks for clearing everything up though.

I didn't think I was gonna get involved in this, but I must say Hunter is a great guy and has been welcomed to join us by several members, including myself. He's just a guy that loves cars, especially his Turbo T/A... which I might add is badass.. the idea of him joining a meet was thought to be a good idea as he can take pictures and do video recordings so that all the bmws can be in the shots... in fact, if his F-body meets weren't always at midnight.. i'd probably join them as well, along with some of the other bmw tucson people..

I think the main reason he got pissed off is because people started to get a little stuck up, just because he doesn't have a bmw doesn't mean he's not as good as everyone else.. I actually started to get disgusted with the attitude towards non-bmws.. seriously people, we need to take it easy, . and we need to be careful how we use the term ricer and such..a stock acura RSX is far from rice.. it's a nice car that deserve proper credit.. (just a little bit.. :D )

Anyway.. Hunter's a great guy, don't judge him on this one outburst.. he's just as good as any of us.. in terms of personality, character, and the type of car he drives.. etc.. etc..(although take it easy on the curves buddy .. :12: ).. and don't forget.. he's apologized.. that's more than a lot of people in today's world would do..

Hopefully, this will be the end of the rage and everyone will get along...

As for myself... I've told some others I probably won't go to this meet.. I'm not really sure..I do want to have fun.. but just not sure.. I'm not really feeling it.. but I was thinking if I didn't go, I'd go and watch, at the least, the SCCA auto-x...

Oh yea.. GMAT...

I appreciate the backing from everyone on the forums. Yes it is true, I do have a lot going on.

Anyhow, as for the non-BMW group....it still does not change my vote. I dont care how fast your car is, or how old. Its not about speed and cornering, and just dogging people.....its about the feeling of driving a car which only 1/20 of the people in the world ever get drive in, more less own. Its about driving down the street in luxury, and then knowing that you can turn it on at anytime.

The truth is, there is not another car out there like that...besides maybe a MB. Anyone can build a fast car especially a fast domestic, but they will never get the looks, and for that matter the respect of a BMW.

As for the personal attacks, maybe that is why you dont drive a BMW, Hunter. The truth is, on ever post I have seen you always have something to complain about, or are always trying to piss someone off. Thats your thing.....

I will have you know that Gianni, Shane, and I started what DTM Tucson has become, I think that it has been great. It is a brotherhood. We drive for the spirit of driving a BMW, along with people who understand what it is all about.

The truth is I am with the Bull. If people cant get along, you can have your club. I'll be with the Bull.

People with attitudes like yours are the ones that give bmw drivers that reputation of being dickheads.
Just because you drive a $22k m3 does not make you any better than the guy on the freeway driving a Toyota Celica. Get over it. Its a car.

I was thinking the same.. that's one of the reasons I'm not sure on whether or not to go... "my girl" wants to go as well.. just not sure if she wanted to go because of me or wanted to go cause she genuinely wants to... I do know that she liks going fast and is somewhat into the performance bit.. she actually plans to modify her new car when she gets it... anyway.. GMAT.. let me know.. if you go and bring her then I'll go and bring mine.. although I have work at 8 PM.. shouldn't be a problem though.. oh.. and there's also the possibility that my car will bein the shop.. getting a complete suspension overhaul.. :D..

I will have you know that Gianni, Shane, and I started what DTM Tucson has become, I think that it has been great. It is a brotherhood. We drive for the spirit of driving a BMW, along with people who understand what it is all about.

Hey Kieth, for that reason you and Gianni should go. Don't let this little incident bother you guys. Gianni just got his car back.. you've all been extremely busy... this is the first chance you guys will have.. and maybe the last chance for quite some time..to participate in a meet... seriosuly.. I haven't seen Gianni for months now.. and the fact that it's in Tucson is a bonus.. don't miss this opportunity.. if there are non-bmws there... just show them what your ///M is made of.. (without getting careless of course).... and you're right.. BMW's will get more looks than a domestic.. for that reason also.. there's no need to worry about 1 or 2 domestics.. because people are just going to see a line of BMW's.. they won't even notice anything else... So I hope you two can overlook this and go and just have fun.. cause you know it is a lot of fun competing with cars of similar abilities.. and besides that.. I doubt Hunter will go himself after this.. besides..he's just one person.. don't let that ruin it for you and everyone else..... and besides.. come on Kieth.. who else will me and Lauren have to follow to get lost trying to find Highway 60?!?.. :laugh

SOoo.. come on.. let's all go and have fun.. you know what.. part of the reason for going is to see and hang out with each other.. I wanna see and hang out with you and G, and so do many others..... don't disappoint us! :nono ... hopefully Tucson will be out in full force and we'll show these Phoenix guys how to drive.. :buttrock :devillook (ok, so I'm actually from phx.. but I spend more time in tucson for school) :devillook

PS. Hey GMAT.. let me know what your plans are for bringing your girlfriend... in fact.. everyone.. if you're bringing a buddy, signifacant other.. let's hear it.. cause I don't want "my girl" (that sounds sooo possessive) to be the only one there..

That is exactly opposite of what I am saying... Most people I know that drive BMWs are more respectable than the average person. Everyone that I have hung out with at meet is always very hospitable, and they dont try to just cut down on other people. Many would go out of there way for another, BMW or not.

Well it seems like there is a lot of misinterpretation. So why don't we all just get along, and start with a clean slate. Ok? Good.

Now then, for the meet it seems that there will be at least a dozen cars driving to Tucson. Here is the current list:

1) OrientBlue 323i
2) GMat
3) jbob
4) AzN_M5
5) rgrmorris
6) Stesta5074

12)Marvelphx (yes, I talked to Greg; he and Todd will probably come
13)KermitM3 (I don't know, possibly)

Hey man no hard feelings. I am sorry for the personal attack I was just pissed off that a group that I felt a part of was willing to jut drop me because of the car I drive. I messed up and posted while I was angry and you post was the last one I read so I used that to voice my concern. Again sorry. I meet you on the first DTM Tucson Mini-meet. You seem like a cool guy and you car was amazingly clean looking. I just wish people wouldn't be so closed minded about things. Like I said before I hang out with the AZLS1.com guys, do I have a LS1? No but do they care? nope. I do get a little sh*t from them everynow and then but my car is diffrnt and diffrent gets made fun of. But they would never tell me that I couldn't park with them or cruise with them. Hell we even let Dennis park at Trader Joes with us and he dosent even have an F-body. So if everyone just accepts everyone, everything will be cool. Well sorry again for the personal attack, I know your a good guy.

Don't forget also, phoenix guys, we're gonna have a mini-meet at the Pavillions car show on the 18th.

I apologize for my mistake then. Ill try to make the pavilions that saturday, it will really depend though. I might be arriving from seattle that night and if i do then ill probably just chill since we have to wake up so early for sun morning.

Yes Keith you're right, sometimes Hunter does shoot his mouth off but he also took a Friday night to help install Shane's exhaust and stayed up until 3 in the morning when I had trouble installing my chip. He's gone out of his way to help some of our DTMers. Glad to see everything back to normal, see you all on the 19th if they give me the day off!

Looks like we have one week until the meet goes down. Just to refresh everyone on the plan: We are having a mini meet this Saturday (1-18-03) @ the Pavillions. The next day everyone should be in the Krispy Kreme parking lot of AZ Mills no later than 9:30am. Then we will all caravan down. We will go over more details on Saturday at the Pavillions.

DaveAZ

This went way off topic.

I should be at the AZ Mills Krispy Kreme 9:30am On Sunday, January 19, 2003. (Corrected-NOT Saturday)

If people driving other cars are enthusiastic enough about BMW's to want to join us, cool.

Just bring your own women, or at least don't flirt with mine. :boobies

The roads are public, as is this list.

Is anyone bringing any 2 way radio devices?

I will meet people, shake hands, act like I enjoy your company :D J/K and then take off to the Autocross when you all go to Bisbee or where ever. So I guess you could put half my name on the list. I've thought about letting all of these people with their hondas, old school f bodies, etc. I'm wondering why we are letting these other cars come to a BMW meet.
Don't you think it takes away from the exclusivity? If this were a Porsche meet do you think it would be cool to let a Vette go with? I think not. If they must come with why don't they just ride in one of our cars? Kindof like that guy in the Silver Acura making his debut to the meet as Michael Schumacher.

Well, I agree on being exclusive. However, I think if we keep the number of "other" cars low, as in only Hunter and maybe one other person. Everything should be fine. There's a couple DTM crews in the U.S. that do it. I think Dado's crew rolls with a Camaro SS.

And btw Antonio, yes, you can go for a ride in the M5.

Brahman- I just think it is going to look a bit ridiculous if we have all BMWs and then an integra or something like that. I simply don't understand it. I know I wouldn't want to go to a Supra,Integra, Mustang, etc meet with my car so who would want to come try to show off their cars at ours?(We all know they try to do this by trying to drive like fricken Schumacher in attempts to impress us)

Brahman Bull

ArcticSilverM3

I would have to agree with you guys that it is a BMW meet, and therefore there should only be BMW's there. But, this is no reason to not attend the meet. This was a lack of communication between everyone and it can be fixed, i.e. next meet all BMW's.

PS. Gianni check your PM.

Antonio
01-17-2003, 08:15 PM
Ok well since I see that many of us are in agreement here I might suggest something. I know for a fact that there will be many passenger seats available in most of the cars coming down from Phoenix. Why don't these people just ride in one of those? This is, after all, a BMW meet and not a "BMW and assortment of many other vehicles meet." The only reason I can foresee this being a problem is if someone would like to try and impress us by their cars ability. I know I personally could care less. I would hate to see some other cool people miss out on going just because someone that doesn't even have a Bimmer wants to show off. I myself do not mind taking the liberty of telling the tag alongs to ditch their cars and get in one of the cars:)

Everyone,

Hunter was going to attend because he has always attended Tucson meets in the past and it has never been an issue until now. He's also become good friends with several people involved with Tucson DTM and others bimmer owners on this board expressed interest in seeing his car. Hunter assumed his roll could serve as videotaping or taking pictures so that all bimmers could be in the shots. Now that you know why he's coming, if you're still against it just say so.

aZn M5,
It's actually a Ram Air Trans Am that Dado's crew rolls with. Nice car too.

By the way, I got Sunday off, see you guys at the meet but without my car, it's still out of service right now :bawl

First off, I'm all for Hunter coming for the sake of video taping and pictures. That way everyone's sex beast will be seen. ;) And I think just having the other non-bimmer guys, with the exception of Hunter, ditch their cars and riding with one of us is also a great idea.

MikeBMW- I stand corrected, I wasn't actually sure of what domestic rolled with Dado, but now I know. Thanks for the correction!

///Misanthrope- I have two Motorola Talkabout T-5420s that I'm bringing. So anyone with Talkabouts or Cobras should definitely use them.

Antonio- Me out performed???!!! Surely you jest, the "Asian Invasion" is second to no man or car and neither is his BEAST. In the words of Raul Julia, from the movie Gumball Rally and the one difference is I have a bimmer not a Ferrari, "The first rule of BMW driving, is what's behind you does not matter! (now promtly rip off your rear-view mirror)"

My Cell: (602) 421-2098

And now that we have the whole domestics/ non-bimmer argument settled, lets not have dejavou (or how ever you spell that wierd a$$ French word, Lauren a little help???!!!).

I have no problem with the people attending, I just don't want any other non BMWs coming with if this is supposed to be a BMW meet. I'm sure this person would be a great camera man, he can just do the recording from one of our cars.
