View Full Version : HAPPY NEW YEAR plus
First I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and best wishes for 2007.
I spoke with my wife today and she said that once again the car is at a stand still. She said the car made a loud screeching noise on the way home. When she got home the neighbor looked at the car and the fan was up against the radiator it has a bent blade. He told her that also the fan clutch is bad. So I am wanting to replace the fan, fan clutch, belts and while I am at it the water pump. Where would be a good place to purchase these items without paying a arm and leg for them? and who would have these items in stock? I was also wondering if I paid someone on here would someone be willing to replace these parts for me. She is stranded and this is her only way to and from work so time is of the essence basically. She wants to take the car to BMW and let them do it, But if someone could help out that would be great. I would rather pay for the parts and pay someone on here for their time then throwing several hundred dollars over to BMW.
Thanks,
Brendan
The Beastmaster 12-31-2006, 02:55 AM Sorry to hear about your troubles. The fan belts can be picked up at Napa or Carquest. Some members here have fans and fan clutches. I have a new waterpump that should fit your car. 99Mpower has my fan clutch tools so he should be able to help with the parts replacement.
99MPower 12-31-2006, 05:21 AM im always down for working on cars... i have all morning monday, if we can get the parts together, brendan, and i've done that install more than a couple times, shouldnt take to long to do everything. If u haven't done the thermo housing, and new thermo, would recommend those as well
actually.... i have a FDK (fan delete kit) I would be willing to sell to you. Its for the E36's, but I haven't installed it yet on my M3, and am leaving for deployment soon. I would be willing to sell to you, as time is of the essence for you.
It would get rid of your fan, and the worries about the fan clutch. Comes with new fan switch, thermo, thermo housing (if u dont have one already), water wetter. The only other things u would need to buy, would be water pump, and belt. Let me know, as I can do everything monday morning.
I have installed this kit on bmwfanatics E36, and nate dawgs E36 and both have had no problem with the FDK. (on a side note though, bmwfanatics continuing overheating problem ended up being a headgasket issue, even after we changed the radiator and everything else)
let me know
EDIT: the whole kit (with alum housing) is going to cost $125 plus shipping (from understeer.com, where I got mine from)
I dont remember what shipping costs, but we can figure something out, all u would need then is waterpump ($60-80) and belt ($5-$10)
EDIT #2: checked understeer, shipping is going to run $20, $145 total for parts - $25 if u already have alum thermo housing.
@ Cal that sounds like a plan to me and I will gladly pay you the total of $165 for the kit.
I will have my wife call around for a waterpump to see if someone close has the pump and the belts if not Beastie would you be willing to seperate with the waterpump you have? if so is there any way you could give it to Cal and I will have my wife give him the money to give to you. if that works for you.
I will call my wife in a few but I know she is off Monday morning. I have to think because we are a day ahead here This would be a great help.
The Beastmaster 12-31-2006, 07:29 AM I have a new waterpump you can have.
99MPower 12-31-2006, 07:33 AM you available tomorrow afternoon between 3 and 5, and we can meet half way in town somewhere, possibly closer to your side, as I might be stopping at oahu320is's house with some parts for him, and to pick up some parts..
ill be at the hobby shop working on the e30 tomorrow all day, just give me a call beastie so we can figure something out..
the belt I will pick up, and then your wife wont have to worry about it, and she can pay me for it when I get there, same with the water pump
thanks guys this is a great help to me and puts my wifes mind at ease very much. I will definately have a BBQ for you all when I come home in Feb, You are true friends.
@CAL I will shoot you the house number and cell on a instant message so you can call my wife
99MPower 12-31-2006, 07:48 AM i still have her number from last time... but just the cell, not the house number
The Beastmaster 12-31-2006, 08:54 AM Cal - lmk so I can dig up that waterpump.
99MPower 12-31-2006, 09:00 AM im definately getting it tomorrow or early monday morning, or late tomorrow nite after pizza hut work.... i'll call u as soon as I can to let you know when and if i'll be out at mike's and such, so we can get together and I can get the waterpump...
thanks beastie
bimbum 12-31-2006, 02:11 PM I have a fan off my car she can have. if I'm reading this right that all the car needs to get going again at least temporarily?
99MPower 12-31-2006, 09:41 PM brendan, can u contribute to this?
i can do the fan delete and have all the new parts
or you can use the used fan and used fan clutch
what you want to do?
I have all the parts in my car ready to go, talked to your wife, and we will be starting around 8-8:30ish
bimbum 01-01-2007, 12:23 AM jeez man easy on the used parts for free! how's the used car cover I gave ya for free doing?
99MPower 01-01-2007, 03:40 AM doing alright.. going to be used on the E30 while I'm on deployment
Cal lets go ahead with the initial plan I am always down for mods and besides I think that the water pump is going bad as the fan clutch is supposedly wobbley I believe that the water pump shaft is going bad too.
@bimbum thanks for offer.
99MPower 01-01-2007, 06:00 AM sounds good... ill shoot a PM tomorrow after install and give u a break down of the prices for everything...
let me know if you need anything else, before I leave for deployment
