View Full Version : TireRack Fiasco...
Two weeks ago I ordered four 18X9 ASA AR1 wheels with two 10mm spacers for the front from Jim at the TireRack. Got the wheels last Thursday (Dec 21)and went to one of their recommended installers to switch the tires. The techs started work on my car but it turned out the TireRack sent 3mm spacers instead of 10mm. I tried to contact Jim right a way but he was going to be out till Dec 26 and nobody else was willing to help me at the TireRack. ...I called him back on Dec 26 and he sent me the 10mm space which I got earlier today. So, this afternoon I am back at the shop all exited I am gonna have my new rims, eventually. Guess what,....The guys had the tires switched again, and when they went to mount them, the wheels wouldn’t fit on the spacers. The bore of the spacer is just a bit wide and it would not fit into the rim...
So guys, If any of you is running 18X9 ASA AR1 in the front, please let me know what kind of spacers are you using.
Thanks, Rams
M3SHO 12-28-2006, 10:09 PM That sucks man! I am getting ready to buy those exact wheels. Or not! I will check with a guy that runs them and see what spacers he has

I am really frustrated with the whole situation; taking the wheel back and forth and the shop doing all the work...the whole experience with the TireRack has been a pain so far, and it is not over yet...

What brand spacers are they? We have 10mm H&R spacers in stock that will work just fine for your application. Let me know if we can help you out. It sounds like the brand spacers you got might not be of the best quality?
endonuky 12-29-2006, 02:26 AM Yes the Tire Rack may have sent you Rogue Engineering spacers, which have a problem with several wheels, I broke some studs at the track because of these spacers two years ago, and RE denies ever hearing of this problem, which is NOT true, mine did not work with the Kosei wheels, but it was barely perceptible, the wheels looked like they fit, but in reality, these spacers did not work. H&R spacers or TMS spacers with hubcentric bearing caps will work.

mmark. 12-29-2006, 10:02 AM There is a disclaimer on the RE site which stresses that their spacers won't work with Kosei wheels.

endonuky 12-29-2006, 11:21 AM Well maybe now, but not a year and a half ago. Not to beat up on RE. I do have their SS kit for over 4 years and have been very happy with it and it has been durable. The early kits were made for specific car models, while now I hear it's one size fits all to a certain extent.
But I digress. Back to the wheel spacers. At the time I had my problem, they completely denied that they had heard of the problem, which was of course rubbish; I was NOT the first. And two track hound friends of mine had the same problem I did, ie. breaking studs because of this, a potentially dangerous situation.
You can ask Rob Levinson of UUC about this, I think they have a disclaimer now due to lawsuits etc.

well, I just talked to a superviser at the TireRack and after a little investigaton he found out that the spacers they sent me had 75.0 center bore instead of 72.5.
They have no 72.5 spacers in stock,(they dont stock them) so I have to get them myself.
the good news is that the Tirerack agreed to pay for them, but I'm going to have to order them online and it is going to take a while to get them. Also I'm leaving town and wont be back for over a week...
bummer..............

Chaosbunny 12-29-2006, 05:47 PM ive sen nothing but great things from tire rack
Crashpad 12-31-2006, 11:31 AM I know several people that use Tirerack as well and support them. Anybody can blunder, but it sounds like they're being a stand up company by paying for the parts.
