If yes, I opened the trunk, removed the 3-4 clips holding the carpet mat on the trunk lid and then you can see the wire and connection to the led brake lights. I recommend make sure it is all the way in and sometimes you may want to wiggle and pull the wire down, while someone is applying pressure on the brake pedal. If the wiring was just llose , you will see the entire LED lights go on. If not, then you need to replace the LED lights MParallel 12-28-2006, 02:34 PM I don't think you can raplace individuel leds as it's a sealed unit. So unless you break it open... Also, the bootlid wiring loom is prone to go broken. BMW even did a wiringloom upgrade. Just open the trunk and see the loom and how it's clipped in and you can see the problem right away. I moves my topclip down by a few cm's so it doesn't kink as badly. dieseldriver99 12-28-2006, 02:38 PM Center brake lights are LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) so you really don't have to worry about them burning out. MParallel 12-28-2006, 02:39 PM Center brake lights are LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) so you really don't have to worry about them burning out. No offense, but it was already clear they are leds. But even leds, can go broken. millertimebmw03 12-28-2006, 05:19 PM I'm thinking it's a resistor problem. When I add alittle solder to the two leads on the side thats not working thy will light up but alittle dimmer than the other half, so I'm thinking I can open it up again and check the resistors. Also there are only two wires going to the brake light positive and negitive. I'll let you know how it goes. dieseldriver99 01-02-2007, 09:34 AM It is very unlikely that an LED itself will break, and to be honest, they are not the same as a filament-based lighting. An LED or to be precise, Diode operates in one direction, like a one way valve. It typically shows a voltage of about .3V when measured from - and + leads, unlike 12V typically shown on a incandescent based ligting. Secondly, an LED emits lighting had no cotacts between + and -, this is what's the main difference. So the only thing that can break is the legs that gets soldered to the PCB board. No offense, but it was already clear they are leds. But even leds, can go broken. |
