Hi Everyone,

My name is Al. I currently live in Rhode Island. I will be moving to the Dallas area due to a job promotion next month. I currently drive a 2001 Honda Accord (boring, I know) but with my new job, I get a monthly car allowance. My wife and I both love BMW's so I will be looking to get one once I get out there.

My questions were actually more related to the Dallas area itself. I will be working in Southlake and plan on buying a house in either Keller, Southlake or Richland Hills. Can you guys point me in the right direction as far as where the best areas are? I have 2 kids so good schools and low crime are the top factors on choosing a location. I know it gets really hot there in the summer, but how hot is it? How about the weather the rest of the year? Is there snakes & scorpions out there? We never see that here in RI, lol. What are some of the main attractions out there?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Al

Stick to Keller and Southlake- they are a bit nicer than RH and NRH IMO (but that is based on driving thru). There are some other nice smaller cities out there, but I am not from the area so I can't really comment. That area is one of the few areas in the DFW area where you can actually get a lot larger than 1/6th of an acre.

Weather? We have 2 seasons in Texas- SUMMER and fallwinterspring- and they go by just that fast. In all seriousness, count on 30 days of 100+ in the summer with the nighttime low not getting below 80. If it doesn't reach that consider yourself lucky- but it could be more than that. "Winter" is mild (like fall in Rhode Island). Snow is rare. Yes there are snakes and scorpions, but not that much of an issue.

Attractions- the Southlake area is great as you are close to Dallas and Fort Worth. Search google for Dallas and Fort Worth attractions and you will see what you can expect.

+1 on sticking to Keller or Southlake. Parts of Grapevine are nice too. If you want to go a little bit more east, Flower Mound is a beautiful town too.

My parents are considering moving to Flower Mound when they're ready to move.

You will get more house for your money in Keller and both have good school districts. I would stay away from RH. As far as snakes ect the only time I ever saw one was when I ran one over at the track!! :D good luck with the move

That doesn't look like any scorpion I've ever seen around this area. The ones around here are usually small and dark colored... That picture was taken from this website www.windows.ucar.edu (http://www.windows.ucar.edu) .... Don't believe the hype!

edit: Looks like you figured that out already

You will see cowboys, ranches, and horses especially on the Ft Worth side. There are still alot of stockshows, rodeos, ect in ft worth so during those I usually try to stay away from that area!

+2 for Flower Mound. There's been numerous reports this past year rating Flower Mound as one of the Top 10 places to live in the country. Although I agree that the Soutlake/Keller school districts may have an upper hand I've been nothing short of pleased at making FM my home. Since I have no kids it's been a win/win.

Good luck with your transition (and the bimmer) and let us know if we can be of any assistance.
