I recall someone being a HVAC guy... and I'm in need of one.

I just purchased a house. It was built in 1982 and so were to the AC/HVAC units. While we were checking the house out and I inspected it top to bottom back in October I had the AC running for ~1hr that day. It blew cold and made no odd sounds. Inspection of the outside unit didn't show anything alarming except some surface rust on the dryer and compressor.

Anyways.. 1 week after buying the house I turn the AC on. It ran for 12-15mins and then just stopped blowing cold. Started to STANK like when you fire the heater up for the first time of the season.

I shut off the thermostat and went outside to inspect... inlet union to the dryer was pissing out refrigerant & oil. Great. (blown out solder joint)

I had a local guy come make a service call. What he said was that the compressor is seized (I have no way to confirm this) and that there is a leak (duh)

He also said the entire system needs to be replaced. Inside and outside units because of thier age and incompatability with modern units.

Existing Carrier units are 8seer 3.5ton.

His repair bill was in the area of $4200 for new inside/outside 13seer 3.5ton units with install. :(

Luckily I purchased a home warranty.. which covers all electricals etc in the home for the first year. I made a claim with them and it was approved. Everything was on its way here when a manager at the warranty company picked up the claim and then DENIED it. Thier reasoning being that because no professional inspection was done prior to the issuing of the policy that no payout would happen... period. The entire policy is now null & void according to them.

Kristins father/lawyer are working with the warranty company.. but in the mean while this needs to be fixed ya know?

I'm not super worried about it. Nothing in thier paperwork I signed states anything about a independant professional inspection... thus their claim to deny won't hold up to a lawyer.

Its also cold.. and I don't see myself using the AC for the next 3 months or so... Emergency heat still works.

some one call me?

wat are you needing? A new install or just a repair of the existing? An 8 seer unit is going to use alot of power. A 13 seer will save you alot of money and pay you back the purchase price in a few years in savings.

How many square feet is your house? By a 3.5 ton I'm going to guess 1600 sq ft.
PM me if you want to discuss this privatly

House is 1800-2000 sq ft. Not exactly sure.

A new install would be ideal.. with up to date equipment.

If the douchebags at a undisclosed waranty company don't hold up thier end of the contract I may have to get whats existing "fixed"

Negative. The only decent shop here is shut down until next year.
My insurance got me a check very quickly.. but less my deductible its not enough to actually get the car fixed. Not even close.

I'll have to do all the work myself(whats new), less the actual paint work, and I should... if I'm lucky.... break even. They are going after State Farm for my deductible but somehow I doubt that will go anywhere.

i'd do 4 tons of A/C on that size. Your unit will cycle more, but your bills will be alot lower.
Pm me when you are ready, and I'll come look at it and shoot you a price.

I might buy it if the price is right. I was thinking of selling the M3 and getting a new ducati, and then selling my R1 and using that money to get me an inexpensive daily.

bang for your buck LS1 is impossible to beat.

I considered doing a 454ss clone with a LSX and a maggie.
