I recall someone being a HVAC guy... and I'm in need of one.
I just purchased a house. It was built in 1982 and so were to the AC/HVAC units. While we were checking the house out and I inspected it top to bottom back in October I had the AC running for ~1hr that day. It blew cold and made no odd sounds. Inspection of the outside unit didn't show anything alarming except some surface rust on the dryer and compressor.
Anyways.. 1 week after buying the house I turn the AC on. It ran for 12-15mins and then just stopped blowing cold. Started to STANK like when you fire the heater up for the first time of the season.
I shut off the thermostat and went outside to inspect... inlet union to the dryer was pissing out refrigerant & oil. Great. (blown out solder joint)
I had a local guy come make a service call. What he said was that the compressor is seized (I have no way to confirm this) and that there is a leak (duh)
He also said the entire system needs to be replaced. Inside and outside units because of thier age and incompatability with modern units.
Existing Carrier units are 8seer 3.5ton.
His repair bill was in the area of $4200 for new inside/outside 13seer 3.5ton units with install. :(
Luckily I purchased a home warranty.. which covers all electricals etc in the home for the first year. I made a claim with them and it was approved. Everything was on its way here when a manager at the warranty company picked up the claim and then DENIED it. Thier reasoning being that because no professional inspection was done prior to the issuing of the policy that no payout would happen... period. The entire policy is now null & void according to them.
Kristins father/lawyer are working with the warranty company.. but in the mean while this needs to be fixed ya know?
