Hey guys. I've got an M50 e34 an the power from 1.5 to 2 thousand rpm is amost nonexistent. I've heard that the inline six is a really torquey engine so whats the deal here? I've noticed in other cars like my friends 2001 mitsubishi eclipse GT that his car accelerates pretty hard at 1500rpm and steadily increases from there. In order to keep up with normal traffic i have to give the car a little over 2000rpm. (automatic transmission) I had a friend of mine tell me that i may have a transmission problem but i'm not so sure. Is this type of thing common for the E34 or do i have a prob? The power from 2500 to 5000 seems to be very good though so i'm not sure what to think. Thanks.

Tiny engine + heavy car + auto = slow off the line.

The motor is quite torquey for what it is, a 2.5L straiht 6. Torque is generated from displacement, (or boost:devillook ) power is made from torque and revs. The torque varies along the RPM band, a dyno chart shows this. Because the car is so heavy, you have to get the engine more into its power band to move the car. Unless the transmission is acting funny, it is probably fine. The engine is simply small for the car.
